Importcds. I trust they are legit in your eyes. If not I'll be upset that I didn't check with you first. I bought your two Von Freeman's (Have No Fear and Serenades and Blues), Warne Marsh and Eddie Johnson. Why it took me so long to order these I have no idea, but I'm looking forward to finally hearing them.

Yes Ted, we have one of those. My Mom puts her "necklace" on every day. But. . . she doesn't seem to want or be able to press it. Both of my parents are suffering through dementia. It's really hard for me, but seems to bring them a lot of enjoyment. . . they seem to be able to come up with the most off the wall stuff and live in a daydream. Oh my.....dementia. That complicates everything. I'm glad that you can take some vacation time away this week. With everything you're doing you need some time for yourself.

Very cool......celebrating with Louis every year. In your situation you probably get way too much advice but if I could add to it. Though you and your folks have probably considered this already, my mom now wears a medical alert pendant all the time. At first she was resistant, but now she refers to it as her "buddy". Unfortunately she's needed to use it 3 times. But it works great. After mom presses the button the company calls the BV fire station ( and me at the same time). The paramedics let themselves in (the fire department installs a key box between front door and storm door free of charge). They help her up and check her over to see if a trip to the emergency room is necessary. Just a bit more peace of mind.

Finally some South Florida Concerts Worth Seeing
TedR replied to Dan Gould's topic in Live Shows & Festivals
I attended a great concert series each year at Young Circle in Hollywood. Sonny Rollins, Milt Jackson, Lee Konitz, Jackie McLean, Ira Sullivan, Dave Holland, Nicholas Payton, etc. played over the years that it was sponsored by the South Florida Friends of Jazz. Late eighties, early nineties I think. I miss those days. -

I always loved "Autumn in New York" whether played or sung. -
Is SS around? The Tribe is doing real good right now.

That reminds me when I saw Louis Bellson play with the Columbus (Ohio) Jazz Arts Group in the late seventies. To this day he was one of the most musical drummers I ever heard. I believe he introduced Jo Jones who was in the audience that night. (Don't mean to take this into another direction, but it was a wonderful memory.)

Playing the Bobby Hackett Mosaic disc 1 at a family brunch. Warm, uncomplicated music......many of these songs I vividly remember hearing on the radio station my parents listened to in the 60's. If a grandchild ever asks me what my parents were like and what it was like growing up then, this is what I would play for them. -

Lionel Hampton, Disc 3. Chu Berry, woah! I think it's the third cut but, at first, I thought Chu Berry's solo was a violin. Wonderful stuff. -

I stood in line for a personality test sometime in the mid eighties and was on the Scientology mailing list for years after that.

I think "celebrity" or fame is something that turns most into self centered narcissists. For instance, when Jarrett was starting to make inroads as a young musician would he have said "I think the privilege is yours to hear [me]."? Now he does, I'm guessing, because he has been treated as and sees himself at the center of some music universe. Maybe arrogance is in his genetic makeup but celebrity changes anyone.

Mr. Relaxation. A role model for introverts everywhere. :-)

I have some VERY strong opinions about this subject. On the other hand I guess I'll keep 'em to myself. No point in rocking the boat. :-) Edited to add a smiley face symbol. My attempt at a quip about extroversion and introversion in the same brain. My I pad can't access the emoticons available.

If you're hungry Five Guys is a good value. You can add so many toppings to your burger that the excess can be a nice side salad. And my wife and I have trouble finishing the huge bag of fries. After those rare times we eat there I do take a low dose aspirin when I get home. :-)

And that just might bring Phil Jackson back to coaching?!

I assume they got a safety. I hoped their defense would be better this year.

Innocent until proven guilty is still the law within the legal system. Outside of it, expressing opinions of guilt are not against the law.

Maybe it's not just technique alone? And in rereading my post I'd edit out "but how far can technique alone take you". I may never warm up to his playing but I could open up a bit and try to understand what I'm hearing. The closest frame of reference I could muster was, at times, Rahsaan Roland Kirk crying out through his instruments. I'll be interested in reading responses to Noj's post.
