what are you drinking right now?

In case anyone wants more detail "Nessa Albariño is a delicious white, as refreshing as the green hills of Galicia. It has a full, bright citrus flavor with a long finish, plus a touch of sparkle at the end." And from International Wine Cellar: "Light yellow-gold, pungent pure aromas of honeydew, quinine, ginger and mint, with a kiss of jasmine. Offers good density and richness but also lively cut, with complex flavors of melon, citrus fruits and exotic bitter quinine. Finishes long, spicy and vibrant." Wine connoisseurs sure have exacting taste buds. -
I use iTune for samples. AllMusic gives you 30 second samples, whereas iTunes gives you minute and a half samples. Makes a huge difference. I'll definitely try iTunes. Thanks.

I mainly use them to listen to music samples that may not be on amazon.

Used the importcds sale to try three of the xrcd24s: Back to the Tracks, The Big Beat and Cape Verdean Blues. Also added the Frank Wess/Johnny Coles Uptown release and Flight for Four (international phonograph). Once we get an estimate on a front porch replacement I hope to splurge on the new Mosaic Louis Armstrong and Chuck's two newest. Then I'm done buying for the year. B-)

Dan, When I lived in South Florida (1982 - 2005) I think we probably went to many of the same places and met some of the same people....Blue Note Records where I met Bob Weinstock and some of the musicians he was recording at the time like Jesse Jones, Melton Mustafa and Turk Mauro, the Friends of Jazz amazing concert series at Young Circle, Penguins (Eddie Higgins, Flip Philips), the home of Eddie Higgins and Merdith D'Ambrosio, etc. Anyways your post reminded me of a concert at a small college there (can't think of the name) where they had one concert with Benny Golson, Jon Faddis, Clark Terry, Billy Taylor....I believe Mark Whitfield was on guitar. They were all approachable and it was fun to talk briefly to all of them. Anyway it's good to hear the Florida jazz organizations are still active and supporting the music.

I consider myself a pretty smart consumer and will only buy when things are 75% off. So I'm going to wait until they are only $500 a cd. :-))

Mosaic Rosemary Clooney set coming out this summer
TedR replied to ghost of miles's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Also similar in concept to the Peggy Lee/June Christy Transcription sessions set. -
When I lived in south Florida there was an audio store called IIRC Sound Components. I loved it there because the owner and employees were music fans first, equipment second. The owner even recorded and produced a number of classical records. I couldn't afford their top of the line stuff but I still use the electronics bought there (mark levinson). They opened a store in Pompano and they rewired my Magnaplanars, originally bought in 1982, and they continue to sound fine. These kind of brick and mortar stores don't exist anymore with the emphasis on home theater, etc.

Just read the Mosaic newsletter that has Ricky's Organissimo post. When he posted here, Louis' vocals at Newport from the VOA mic hadn't been spliced in by Andreas Meyer. Assuming it's been done I was curious if Ricky and others at Mosaic were pleased with the result. This set is a must buy for me. I have none of this live material (I can't believe that's true) and to have Teagarden and his vocals and Hackett et al. with Armstrong, all live, is too much. Life is too short not to start enjoying this music as soon as possible. Listening to the Sony 4 disc Hot Fives/Sevens while I type.

While we're on the topic of the SD boys and jazz, it may be edifying to some people here that they ripped off Keith Jarrett's intro to "As Long As You're Getting Yours" (OSLT?) for their pop masterpiece "Gaucho". Keith wouldn't let them get way with it, and now his name is included on the songwriting credits. (from sgcim's post) From what I recall SD's Riki Don't Lose That Number has an introduction that is the theme from a Horace Silver tune (Song for my Father?).

Whether they were effective producers or not is for someone else to say. But I was always impressed that Becker/Fagan, as self described "tenor freaks" and longtime jazz fans, were aware of the greatness of Marsh and hoped to get more recognition for him. I became aware of him for the first time through this record and started searching for more of his recordings.

I'll go out on a limb and guess Moms won't list Joe Lovano.

These details about how a set is put together and all the challenges and surprises are invaluable. Sometimes I put off a Mosaic purchase because it seems expensive but when I understand all the work involved, the price becomes a bargain.

Has it been awarded anything by Guiness World Records Ltd?

I wonder why they still describe the Heifetz as the " greatest number of audio discs in a boxed set......by a single instrumentalist" when the Arthur Rubinstein complete album set has 144 discs and was described the same way.

Indeed, my philosophy is that there is a physical limit to how many CDs I can own. In many cases the music I'm selling is stuff that I've heard and liked, but no longer need, or in some cases stuff that I don't have much use for anymore. I try to sell them at low prices because I want other people who are a part of this community we have here to enjoy them. And I, for one, appreciate it. I bought two sets from you in the past that I would not have purchased otherwise. And for anyone considering buying, Face is great to do business with. Shipments were timely and arrived in excellent condition.

Whole batch of Mosaic Selects and Singles running low
TedR replied to miles65's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
I'm listening to the Hackett "easy listening" sides now. These have been criticized for that but I admire how he plays within the songs while subtly adding to and improving the songs with his unique sound and style. To me, they are very much like the Ella Songbooks when she sings with an appreciation for the song. And the "jazz" sides are a nice addition to those he recorded with Teagarden. I'm a fan. -
I've read a number of his reviews in Downbeat and liner notes over the years and never knew he was a musician. Thanks for posting this.
