While watching/listening to the clip I kept thinking of Lester Young's quote, "but can you sing me a song?" Now that may be unfair since this is the first time I've heard of this player but how far can technique alone take you?

I used to sit in the "sweet spot" and enjoy the sound stage. And I still do occasionally for new music I've purchased. But as you said I usually don't listen with as much concentration anymore. We have an open stairway to a partially finished basement where my stereo is. Now I'm content to listen in the living room or kitchen as the music drifts upstairs.

I was tempted to post some Doors albums but since it's too obvious and smart alecky I decided not to. :-) Any Doors albums with doors?

Ugh. Well I was wrong about the blow out. Now I think losing a close one like this is much more difficult to bounce back from. Miami wins the next one with their legacy on the line. My reason for rooting for the Spurs, besides being the underdog, is I can't forget LeBron's arrogance when, before playing one game with the big three, he promised championships ("not one, not two, not three, not four, not five , not six, not SEVEN....."). Many of their fans even started heading for the exits when it appeared the Heat MAY have lost well before the game was over. And in the finals of all things. I don't know of any other fans that would react that way in the same circumstances. (sorry Bright, just one opinion)

I don't think there's much lost on Lennox Avenue Breakdown and Illusions. LAB sounds 'very' organic to me. Can you also elaborate perhaps? "Production", mostly. Felt to me more like the music was being "presented" than "happening". Nothing wrong with that, it just seemed different to me at the time. Probably unavoidable. True from my perspective, Kept the Adelphi and none of the Columbias. This seems to be a characteristic comment about many of the Columbias. Is this big label syndrome and/ or the role of their producers "guiding" the musicians........?

I think it'll go 7 games too. Miami is 6-0 after a loss during these playoffs. They always respond well. Game 6 should be the blow out.
-
It's now Miami's championship. Miami showed, after getting blown out in the third game, that they respond with a fierce competitiveness when they need to win. Unfortunately Parker can't play the minutes needed to keep SA competitive with Miami over the course of 3 more games, if needed. And we won't see the Spurs 3 point barrage again with Miami's more aggressive defense.

I guess it's not too outrageous to share that I have to gear myself up to drink Metamucil every day. Normally I'd think that was TMI, but not anymore. :-)
-
what are you drinking right now?
TedR replied to alocispepraluger102's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Please do! I'd like to see this too. But, when my wife and I noticed we were talking a bit faster and sometimes speaking over each other in the morning, we switched to half caff. :-) -
Uh oh.

These last two covers win the prize. Good god!

Exciting if Spurs win the first two in Miami but it's unlikely. Miami is fierce when they're behind.

Which Jazz box set are you grooving to right now?
TedR replied to Cliff Englewood's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Listening to cd 3 of the In A Silent Way box (thanks to a board members sale). Ghetto Walk! Haven't heard IASW since I played the vinyl years ago. What a treat for a Sunday morning. -
Okay okay, it's more everyone else's fault then yours. You win. If someone threatens me I don't argue with 'em harshly. I stay away from 'em. On the boards that means you ignore them by not responding. So it sounds like certain people don't like you. Accept it. And stop being strident, harsh and compelled to point things out then if it's not working for you. Who cares if they are harsh and strident. You're saying if they don't own up to what they do then neither will you. Okay, okay. You win. But you can't influence others "abhorrent" behavior if you can't change your own. So expect it to go on and on and on and on.......You don't have to respond back to this. But I bet you can't help yourself. Only you know why that is. It is, as you said, sad.

My first reaction would be how has my attitude contributed to such dislike that there are rumors, lies and insults being told about me? If my conclusion is the way I conduct myself is absolutely stellar and everyone else is to blame, then I'd have to believe I was not willing to admit to any mistakes or responsibility whatsoever for what I do or say. Two sides to every issue. I can't control what others do or say but I can decide to improve on how I act and respond. Now when it comes to "threats of making trouble" at my workplace, there is no justification for that. I've never been on the JC site so don't know anything about what happened there. But your letter to the JC moderator and owner seemed like a mea culpa for reasons you seem to be aware of. That seems like a start.

Why do you have to respond? I never understood that. Responding to someone's negative comments (or, if you prefer, "attacks" as if written posts result in physical injury) escalates things. So what if it's unfair. Our parents taught us at an early age, when we whined about something we didn't like, that life was unfair and it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. Respond lif it makes you feel better about yourself but expect things to continue. If you want the "attacks" to end or diminish, ignore them and take the advice you thought was so good: Move on.

I was worried about this page today when "my pants are falling down" headline is followed by "boner stifled"!

Just ordered 3 of the Complete Columbia Albums box sets from amazon UK sellers: Woody Shaw, the first Weather Report and the Byrds. With the increased shipping costs through Amazon, the box sets are an even better deal.
-
Their athleticism aside, this team's fierce competitiveness is on another level from the rest of the league.
-
That would be sweet. When I'm not a fan of either team I root for the underdog.

Fascinating stuff in these links from Steve and Pete. JimS, those comments from Dennis Gonzalez (I have a number of his Silkheart CDs that I love) about your playing on his Littlle Toot LP ("Hymn for Sam Rivers) are way cool. I never would have known about this otherwise. I'll do a search for this if it's even available.

So that's who the "long ball" is named after. :-)

Do I have to edit my post now? lol I'm tempted to find and cut and paste the Harvey Pekar strip where his cat pee'd on his Charlie Parker records. But there might be a mass exodus.
