  1. A co-worker died last week from Covid and he had the J&J vaccine, so if i had that one, I'd be looking to combine it with another too.
  2. Well shit - I always thought it was due to that Clint Eastwood movie. Learn something new every day.
  3. Wow - great memory! I had quite a few of those CDs... I remember buying them at the big Boston Tower Records thinking that they were from some weird Japanese reissue series. I was talking to Cuscuna about them and learned that they were boots so I dumped them all pretty quickly. I seem to remember a Blue Mitchell one but no listing in discogs. The discogs listing for that label seems to show that some of these CDs had real covers: https://www.discogs.com/label/413163-Echo-Industry-Co-Ltd Amazon actually lists Blue Mitchell's The Thing To Do (Best Selection) as a download. I think that's the one I was thinking of: https://www.amazon.com/Thing-Do-Best-Selection/dp/B00865KZHO BTW - these Best Selection CDs were really cheap and were usually in a sort of "cut-out bin" or no name PD sales section.
  4. Someone should transcribe this for posterity. You never know how long these blogs stay around.
  5. We'll have to agree to disagree.
  6. BTW - for Sun Ra fans - he goes into a little discussion about his they came to be his Monday night band for several years.
  7. Nothing like making the price part of the artwork... and listing it in the largest font on the cover. Great record BTW.
  8. I was googling Slugs Saloon when I tripped over this link: https://www.rnz.co.nz/national/programmes/nat-music/audio/20145088/slugs-saloon This was a great interview. Learned some things too. He says that Lee Morgan licensed "The Sidewinder" to Chrysler for $17,000, which goes against all the rumors that Chrysler tried to use it without paying him.
  9. I had a bottle of this last night with dinner at a local restaurant, Frankie & Johnny's. Upon opening, i was not that impressed. It didn't have a lot going on. Then after about 20 minutes to a half hour, it opened up significantly, almost becoming a different wine. Another winner from Daou, who are quickly becoming one of my favorite wineries.
  10. Look at the initial post. "I wanted to go but didn't for fear of I might hear". What does that mean?
  11. I've seen Ravi live many times. What is he doing now that might offend anyone? This is from his last release as a leader:
  12. I'd much rather get any of the Pfizer COVID shots than the Shingles vaccine. I got my first shingles vaccine and my arm hurt like hell for a week. I couldn't sleep the fist night at all. Good thing I scheduled it for Friday.
  13. Danny D'Imperio Quintet - 3rd Annual Jazz Gala - Disc 1 (private recording). Danny heading up a band with Nick Brignola on baritone, soprano & alto, Frank Moser on alto, Rick Montalbano on piano & Nick Molfese on bass. Carol Leigh guests on vocals on a few tunes. Great to hear this music again. When you have so much music laying around, you sometimes forget about these private recordings you've been gifted with over the years. I'm surprised Danny never got any of this stuff out. He probably couldn't get the clearances. Edit to add... Carol Leigh's guest on "Lover Man" is not my favorite. In some places, she sounds like a cat getting strangled.
  14. I've ordered a couple of out of print CDs from them that they said that they had in stock and they didn't. I have not problems with them for in print stuff though.
  15. If you don't require a physical copy, you can download it in WAV format from Chesky: https://chesky.com/products/jazz-in-the-key-of-blue-jimmy-cobb-download And there's this: https://www.ebay.com/p/23046100473 But I don't trust the seller, Import CDs, all that much...
  16. Wayne Escoffrey at Scullers in Boston. Even vaccinated, this still feels weird given the large number of new cases around here. At least Scullers is requiring proof of vaccination or a negative Covid test prior to entry, so there is that.
  17. I'm a Harry Allen fan, so this one caught my eye...
  18. My wife was talking to a retired co-worker who had Covid a while back and she lost her senses for taste & smell. It's been several months. She tells my wife she really misses the taste of coffee. One of my co-workers got Covid last fall and lost his sense of smell & taste for a few weeks but it came back. I can't imagine if I lost my sense of taste & smell. My wine cellar would be pretty useless.
  19. Wow... it's been so long since I've been to Birdland. Has to be over 20 years now. How time flies. If my memory is correct, this picture was taken from somewhere in front of the bar?
  20. The Prestige Blues-Swingers featuring Coleman Hawkins - Stasch (Prestige/Swingville). Idrees Sulieman, trumpet; Jerome Richardson, alto sax, flute; Coleman Hawkins, tenor sax; Pepper Adams, baritone sax; Ray Bryant, piano; Roy Gaines, guitar; Wendell Marshall, bass; and Walter Bolden, drums. The guitarist, Roy Gaines, was an unknown to me. Mainly a blues guitarist, he only recently died (August 2021) and seems to have made a name for himself as a sideman. Fun record. I somehow missed this recording until @sonnymax started a discussion about these Prestige jam sessions. It's very good and I'm glad I was able to pick this up for around $25 for an older RVG pressing.
  21. "Base On Balls" is one of my favorite slow blues.
  22. I wonder how many of her fans listened to her advice? Actor and Anti-Vaxxer Kristy Swanson Hospitalized with COVID-19
  23. I've read the liner notes and still don't get the cover... did they miss the train and have to walk? Why does the bassist have to carry his bass but the drummer only carries his snare?
  24. PG Tips is the best tea - and it's not tea if it's not with milk & sugar, Except that Constellation Brands is trying their best to ruin the wine industry by being the leading producer of the blending wine "Mega Purple".
  25. I have a couple of bottles of Booker White in the fridge. I wonder if this winery will be affected by their recent influx of money from Constellation Brands?
