Lee Konitz/Hal Galper: Windows
Thanks to HutchFan for posting this recording a day or so ago. I decided to play it again and found that there was much good music that I'd missed before.
Director Abbas Kiarostami has passed away: http://www.nytimes.com/2016/07/05/movies/abbas-kiarostami-iranian-filmmaker-dies.html
I've only seen the two films he made outside Iran, Certified Copy and Like Someone in Love. I'm glad I saw both, even if they weren't exactly my taste.
Two new Frog titles: http://www.frog-records.co.uk/

East St. Louis Stomp: Hot Jazz Recorded in St. Louis 1924 - 1932
Release date is given as July 18.
edit - U.S. Amazon release date is August 19.
I recently listened to:
Alex Hill: Ain't It Nice? (Timeless Historical 1- 050)
Richmond Rarities (Jazz Oracle 8008) - Thanks to Chuck for reminding me of this one, and another thanks for turning me on to the Alex Hill.
"Sizzling the Blues" - New Orleans 1927 - 1929 (Frog 5)
"Don't Leave Me Here" - New York Volume 3 (Frog 12)
Highly recommended to anyone interested in early jazz recordings.
We don't usually get severe weather here, but this afternoon brought very heavy rain and nickel sized hail. There was a tornado warning, but we didn't get hit with one. Could be a lot worse, I guess.
I hope you're not serious. Fats was recording and had his voice when Randy Newman was a little kid. "Have You Seen My Baby?" was a Richard Perry producer's thing. I'm sure Fats was given a demo and told to copy it.
The first time I heard Randy Newman, he just sounded like someone trying to copy Fats' voice.
And he will receive that every year until 2036. Reading about the way that so many athletes blow away their money, this was a very smart move by his agent.
