  1. I'll agree--don't buy this instead of many other Aylers. Buy this after you have most of the others and feel you want more.
  2. I haven't bought today's new reissue, because I have had for years a Japanese K2 cd that sounds pretty darned good. I like this session, it's a lot of fun, has some incredible tenor on it, has some absolutely ridiculous material on it and some serious as your life moments. . . . I've become a fan of all the music of Ayler's I've ever heard, there's a surprising amount of difference from one end of the body of work to the other, but I find it all so very moving and stimulating. I feel and think listening to this music. . . I'm alive. I'm interested in hearing what others think of this too. . . .
  3. I don't believe the source material is great. The new ESP DISK remasterings seem very good to me, considering the sources. . . .
  4. Thanks! Added it to my queue!
  5. Yeah, it's a really good session, and deserves to be on cd again!
  6. NO! DON'T!
  7. Enjoy yourself, indulge yourself, celebrate yourself!
  8. The one that pops right out at me is "The Soft Swing" which I have on a Japanese cd, which is now available as a download on Verve's "Vault" page. He also did some great work with Al and Zoot on "You 'n Me," and "The Al Cohn Quintet featuring Zoot Sims" (Dot or Coral, a GRP cd, now out of print I think) and with Al Cohn and Brookmeyer in "The Al Cohn Quintet" (a recent Verve LP By Request).
  9. Yes, very dark. That Dinah is a good album, I have it in the appropriate "Complete" volume, and the separate cd!
  10. I have quite a few Atlantics and the Columbias. . . but no Prestige! I admit it, I'm deprived! I'll fix that eventually! I'm a fan. Like his work as a sideman with Getz et al a lot.
  11. thanks John!
  12. Chuck, I agree with you wholeheartedly: those four Muddy discs are just amazing. Nothing quite like them!
  13. I'm a big Bessie fan, and have recently gone through the Frog label's eight volumes, which I really love. . . the sound is clearer than the Columbias, though the Columbia cds have those FANTASTIC notes from Chris Albertson with all those photos and record labels, etc. I confess, I have most of the Columbia sets, and all the Frog cds! I love the sessions with Louis! And yes, that Joe Smith tone!
  14. I'm pretty sure you'll like Turning Point if you like Think!
  15. No matter how comfortable, don't fall asleep in the tub. . . DON'T!
  16. Again, not a good idea. . . .
  17. And don't run up stairs okay? You're already late! Walk normally up the stairs and think up a good excuse.
  18. I knew you would make that connection! Some people should just stay away from stairs. . . period! DON'T!
  19. Dan, what do you mean? What has Hollywood done to you! That's NOT fat! She shouldn't have that child near the railing though. DON'T!
