  1. Gad we're old. A few weeks ago a friend of mine was wearing a Who tee shirt and when we stopped at a convenience store the clerk asked him "Who are the Who?"
  2. Thanks for the reviews skeith and G A. . . I ordered this from cduniverse this week and am looking forward to the set. I only have this material on the Riverside box set, and will enjoy the sonic upgrade and the presentation.
  3. Are these, like the Blue Notes before them, i.e. not really legal for sale in the US?

    Prez...

It's way too bad the Keynote sessions cd is out of print, I would have recommended that. The Aladdin is great two, but I didn't want to recommend two discs. The Jazz Immortal really has a drive to it that would appeal to a hard bop fan and shows off all of Pres' attributes well. I hope you do find Pres intriguing; he's addes so much to my listening life!
  5. I don't know how much scholarly acquisition I managed in my two years of the "life of the mind" at UC. I do know I met the woman of my dreams. . . though we didn't hook up romantically til many years later! I couldn't hack two more years there, and it ruined college for me, I never did complete college, and when I firs stepped in there I was intending to have a long academic career! Ah well. . . can't blame "The Koln Concert"!
  6. Wow, Teagarden!
  7. Wow. I was in the wrong college. Well, I definitely was for a hundred reasons, and one reason was there were very few women, and those that were there weren't in to these lps as far as I can tell!

    Dave Burrell

Yes, IF he is trying to be really doing "the style," he's not that convincing. If he's having some fun playing the stuff, it's fun to hear him do that. That's how I view what I've heard. As for Roberts, I've listened, do listen to a lot of the early giants too. And he sometimes on records gets close to really nailing it if you ask me. I've seen him four times live now, and he gets even closer live somehow. And he is one of the few pianists I've seen whose hands were literally a blur on some numbers. An impressive mofo!

I like his Morton, but agree with you. What do you think of Marcus Roberts?
