  1. I have yet another version of this, the non XRCD earlier Japanese cd. EXCELLENT!
  2. Wow, more lyricism than Jarrett on Koln? Jarrett's solo stuff I have to say IS my kind of stuff. Listening to Radiance disc one right now. . . . Great.
  3. Whew! I have what I need from that list!

    Larry Young

Then there's all that great "Dukey Stick" stuff!
  5. Lucky devil!
  6. I MIGHT like Consecration better, I reach for it a bit more, but I really couldn't pinpoint why. BOTH are excellent examples in my opinion of this great trio . . . .
  7. I can still remember opening the plastic on the Bremen Lausanne box when it came out (or after I had saved up for it after hearing a side at a friend's) and digesting that, and then getting the Koln Concert when they were released and just exulting in the ebb and flow of melody and embellishment. . . . I listened to this many times, and it was the one Jarrett record that others partying about me seemed to like, so it has that sort of communicability. . . . It's not my favorite of the Jarrett solo productions. I sometimes thing Staircase is my favorite, Radiance may one day become my favorite, I'm deeply attached to about half of the Bremen Lausanne which was my first and perhaps in some ways most rewarding Jarrett purchase. But man oh man. . . Koln can really be . . . transporting . . . in the right times. A concert to just ease into and to let just wash over you.
  8. Cellar Door! or maybe Gil Evans! or the Second Quintet! or the Coltrane! Those are at least the top four for me.

I think one reason there is little response is that those lps are not readily avialable for listening so there are fewer to comment with experience. I've heard them. Must say they are my least favorite Larry Youngs! As far as going crazy with electronic keyboards. . . . Ra and Jarrett are the ones I think of as being most "crazy" when they were deep into the electronic thang!

    Fred Anderson

I've been listening to this on and off for a month or so, never really being able to give it full attention all the times it's spinning unfortunately. I like it a lot. I'm NOT a Drake fan for some reason, he really just doesn't appeal to me, and this date hasn't converted me, but I really like what Anderson does here and to an extent Parker's contributions. Quite nice sound too. I don't have much Anderson in my collection, this is the one I've liked the most of what I've heard.
  11. I wish I could afford to send out about two dozen airfares and hotel payments. . . but alas. . . I can't. I'm not one of Bush's buddies. . . .
  12. Alright do this. . . only if you have done it before. And want to do it again.
  13. DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT IT
  14. Wow, two and a half weeks in Hawaii, and the Charles box! Jealous am I! If you are going to be in Oahu, have a drink at the House Without a Key at the Halikulani hotel for me! PLEASE!
  15. Yeah. Don't SING.

    Monk

That's right. The Jackson material is available on RVG'd cds and sounds spectacular there. The only specific difference besides sonics you would get giving up the box set is the pitch-corrected Half Note tracks. . . .
  17. John, I very much appreciate the effort and the information! A really nice little treasure you have there!
  18. JELLY ROLL MORTON ON ROUNDER!
  19. Check out their Gotham series! Cheap! Fun!
  20. John, don't go to any great trouble, thanks, I'll look through the discography and piece it together. Was most interested to see what was in that Historically Speaking box that wasn't released before.
  21. Many more happy returns my friend!
  22. Yeah, I thought it was interesting in that it's one of the few reviews I have seen which doesn't seem to imply that Impulse made Ayler go this different route. . . . I've always seen it as a response to Mary Maria's importance to his life at the time. . . . I've been listening to this one for years. . . it grows on me more and more. . . Cobbs and Purdie and that BASS. . . and that horn playing. . . they get under my skin.
  23. I haven't heard this one but I'm sure it's great. "Movin' Right Along" is one of my favorite Prestiges. Not Cobb Prestiges. . . Prestiges!
