  1. And she sort of sells the not bad lyrics. . . . Good call Harold. I dig this one. I'll have to pull it out soon.
  2. I like this one a lot, always did since its cd release. . . . I too think Billie's Bounce is a real plus to have. But then I literally like all the work by this trio.
  3. Well, I ordered two cheap Dylan discs off half.com of eighties albums I've never even heard. And the RRK Copenhagen disc seems to be going away from yourmusic.com soon, so I ordered that and also Domino; both were in my queue. I have the Complete box set, but since the I Talk with the Spirits VME I have sounds so good, I went for these.
  4. Okay, time to talk about this set. I got it last night and have listened to two discs. First off, right away I was a bit disappointed in the sound. I SUSPECT it was just a little too heavily scrubbed with Cedar. But maybe not. . . the piano sounds magnificent. This was DSD mastered and that shows. But there is a "grating" quality within the sound of Jelly's voice that could have been avoided I THINK if there were just a little less digital cleansing going on. I could be wrong. I listen nearfield in a pretty revealing setup and that may be aggravating it; I haven't listened on any other systems yet. But now that I have that out of the way I have to say: if you THINK you would like this set, you'll LOVE it for the music, the history and the personality.

    Verve LPRs

I think Flurin is talking crazy! There are no jewelbox LPRs!
  6. Many more big fat happy ones!

Too bad you don't dig the Vault. I've no complaints other than the Real thing. Sure it would be nice to have more art etc. But I also have fun researching the material and making my own artwork. I do that a lot, research and make artwork, I find it fun. And the way I look at it: a cd in hand is better than not having the music.
  8. Wow. I think the sound quality is so good on the Bird/Diz and it is somehow just seeming more significant to me (early date for bebop, CHARLIE AND DIZ AND MAX AND SID, etc.) that I had no choice but to choose the second option. Plus, though this really isn't supposed to matter in the poll I guess, I feel this little diligent label Uptown showed them ALL how it should be done. I love the Carnegie Hall, don't mistake me. MONK! Monk as good as it gets! *edited out a spelling error
  9. Ravi plays nice on it, but Tootie's on fire!
  10. Third level for me. Maybe if I act more repentful l. . . .nah.
  11. "That was then, this is now." I guess that sums up my interest! I was really into them then. . . haven't really been curious to hear what they sound like now!
  12. Peter, I'm glad yours arrived. I haven't bought a copy yet. But that's because I was lucky enough to receive an advanced copy weeks back and have been listening to that several times a week. (My package from cduniverse with the Morton box set did arrive today though!) Personally this is my FAVORITE of the recordings of Monk with Trane. As mentioned above, the joy of playing and playing together comes through unmistakbly here. And that really does make this an exciting listen. I love how clearly the beautiful piano Monk got to play was recorded and you can hear how it reponds to his unique touch and how it resounds in the hall. I love that! One of my favorite RECORDINGS of Monk on piano. I also love how clearly you can hear Shadow Wilson, who really supports everyone so well. I agree with youmustbe that this is not rhe "holy grail" (I'm more excited ultimately by the Diz and Bird at Town Hall release and sort of feel that this little record company Uptown showed eeryone how to make a monumental jazz release). But I'm also convinced this is a successful reissue that may even bring newbies into the fold. And that may cause oldsters to jazz to feel like newbies with renewed excitement.
  13. I voted for Wayne. I think he's the most influential on the youngest players I've heard of the list. That's slightly unfortunate as I'm really sort of glad we have Wayne, but don't want a lot of his influence in the future. Too snakey and my interest in this style and flavor of music. .. wanes.
  14. Proposed cover for the Mosaic box. . .
  15. That's wild! I have all but one of those . . . in disc form.
  16. Thanks B! I've always liked this one.
  17. skeith, they are talking about the tunes here on this Jazzland: Is this the biggest selling Jazzland?
  18. I was able to compare material between this and the XRCD of Sundays last. . . Sunday at a friend's. They were "different". . . not really one better than another. (My honest assessment.) The instrumental balance was a little different (more center fill in the XRCD) and tonally the XRCD was brighter, crisper, more forward seeming to me.
  19. Wish I knew who that gal with Mitch is! Yes, I bet they were something else to see in Paris!
