  1. Lennon the Limey is one of my favorite Bugs. I hate the walrus.
  2. Looks like a terrorist to me! Blue alert!
  3. Happy Birthday Mr. Evan-ident!
  4. I agree, it's a gem!

    March 1st RVG

I would get the new one. Better presentation visually: pictures, picture card in the center, etc.
  6. Gitte was so cute! Though one side of my family was "Henning" so I better cool my jets.
  7. Damn! I wish Masters of Jazz were still around Uncle Clem!

The Japanese "Night Dreamer" JRVG from a few years back was much prefered by me to the McMaster. Weird. I haven't heard the new one yet.

    Billy Gardner

Does a few sideman appearances here and there around that time. I know he appeared on at least one of the two Charlie Rouse Epic lps on piano.
  10. I'm going from memory of a few weeks back. . . he may, but it isn't often and predominantly!
  11. I think the largest difference is likely that the Five Spot was recorded via a tape deck in someone's handbag or at at table, within the audience, while the European recordings are from a large hall sound system recorded for broadcast professionally, or from a private recording of that broadcast in a fan's home. . . .
  12. Okay, I've had Berimbaum for about 18 hours now. . . Man I dig this! Definitely a tastefully done fusion of the contemporary with the classic. The result is one of those rare albums that frees itself from the cliches of the genre, even though it uses them, presenting them in a new light. Paula sings beautifully. There are some devestatingly good use of low horns, drum machines, synth sounds, and sampled guitars etc. Some parts sound like Laswell dub-productiong (which is meant as a compliment). Some sound like nothing else quite that I've heard. The sonics and the mix are just great. Fun fun music and I'm going to be enjoying and recommending this for some time!
  13. I may be off base but isn't John Collins talking about the mob a bit like the pot calling the kettle black? My memory isn't as sharp as it used to be though. . . . I'll have to look something up.
  14. I don't consider it dreadful, but he doesn't use it here.
  15. My last order was a copy of "Gitte Haening and the Clarke Boland Big Band" to replace some worn vinyl, and the fourth volume of Solal Vogue recordings. Should have it soon. Can't wait!
  16. It's going to come out. Won't be too long either. My magic eight ball said so.
  17. Hmmm. . . . I'm not sure that the one on Collectables WAS in the Japanese Pres box, but it may have been. (I got the Collectabes before the Pres box anyway, so it was new to me). Sure sounds better!
  18. And if it's bad. . .I want to hear it anyway. (Right Mr. Cuscuna?)
  19. I have many favorites in both camps. I wouldn't say that I enjoy one more than the other. . . . They are different experiences, often with different intent from the performers. . . .

Wow! I bet you did nearly fall out of your chair! Glad you had that experience; and thanks for sharing.
  21. Also a Cedar Walton.
  22. I think there was a Stitt, an Al and Zoot and perhaps a few others? Here's an interesting article: http://mixonline.com/mag/audio_label_art_jazz/
  23. I only have one of these Charlie Parker Pres discs, the one that is out on Collectables, and it was "new to me" indeed. I am not sure what is on any other.
  24. PS: I have some Payne material for sale in the offerings forum, duplicates I have on Fresh Sounds and Collectables.
  25. Yes, I know the Bird and Pres stuff have been out before, but I'll still pick up the Pres for sonic upgrade reasons. . . and to be able to buy "new" Pres. . . it will be a psychological lift for ME. That's just me!
