  2. I think you could afford the basic Zen amp, and the Parker 95 speakers that are designed to mate with them and get really good reviews from owners of the combo, and a fairly decent SACD or universal player to start off an excellent system (with the Decware amps you don't need a preamp for cd, they have adjustable gain pots on the amps' inputs). Decware Zen "C" Amp Parker 95 speakers There are users of Decware in the UK that maybe you could talk to, audition with? Look within this forum if interested: Decware Forum One of these, David Williams, posts here occasionally.
  3. I don't want to read the review. I know what would happen. I'd get the FEVER to buy the damned set!
  4. Yes Wolff, it has gotten good pr from owners. And I haven't heard a circuit from Steve Deckert that doesn't bring great sounding music home to poppa!
  5. I really dig Tiny's drumming on the live sides, and Horace's early piano appearances on the studio sides. I need to dig these out again too, great stuff!
  6. Okay, I'll be like a broken record and recommend my favorite audio products: https://athena.safe-order.net/decware/catalog.htm

    Sue City Records

Here's hoping by some miracle she gets some of these out!

    Charlie Rouse

Both of those have been mentioned in this thread, but bear mentioning again! I'm listening to "Four in One" by Sphere right now.
  9. Personally, Dan, Carrie doesn't do ANYTHING for me. She's good, but she doesn't spark me at all. It's not a reaction against country, even when not doing country she fails to "reach" ME. But she has, I'm pretty sure, plenty of fans. SoulStream, yeah, Scott does have some interesting vibrato stuff going on. . . . I like how emotional he is. I'm an emotional guy as well. I can relate. Chris, I'm just not that fond of rockers overall. . . . I'd rather NOT see one win the competition. Hey, I'd have liked to see that cat that did Moody's Mood for Love go right to the top!
  10. I knew so many Bos and wannabe Bos in this music scene here that I think HE'S generic and he doesn't float my boat. He's competent. . . but boring. I think Vonzell is a bit on the generic side but I think she's the best singer there and I think she has a personality and stance I'd rather see validated by a win as idol than any of the others. . . . That's just me.
  11. I'm not making predictions like that. . . this thing doesn't go the way I figure it would, so I'm just riding it out watching what happens. I like Vonzell and I'm rooting for her. I like Scott too. . . . Not sure why, just do. Dislike the others big time.
  12. I saw that as one of many whacky short bits played before The Return of the King at the Alamo Drafthouse, Village Theater, Austin. It's even more hilarious on a big screen!
  13. Yes, I've had worse dreams. But they have nothing to do with this thread. . .
  14. Okay, I thought I read mention that the Fisher larger ensemble works (nice stuff!) were to be given their own Select. . . . I may have just been dreaming. . . .
  15. Vonzell is still there. Whew!

    Charlie Rouse

I got 'em too. I don't care about the back cover loss personallly. Great music!
  17. Okay. (If this were pertinent, I would wonder what else is in that set!)

    Fats Waller

The new RCA Centennial collection cd/dvd may be a good starting point. . . . You'll end up duplicating the material if you start collecting Fats, but the sound is excellent, the choice of tunes great, and the dvd is highly enlightening!
  19. Okay, but it does supplement with information something that Jim mentioned that may or may not have had anything to do with the thread.
  20. I think the PJs are due to be a Select. . . .
  21. Good point Ron. Austin would be way UP on the "down" list. (Now that's political double think and talk for ya).
  22. If the Legislature were ALWAYS in session rather than as it is now, Austin would probably be way up there. . .
  23. I'm a big fan of Emily!
  24. I think they may be European Blue Note releases. . . (?)
  25. His record label is Sensaton Records, though it seems dormant, and he has also done work for Jazz Oracle, supplying records or comments and notes. . . .
