Bertrand, I've never taken the time to totally work out the provenance of all the tracks on Live/Evil (but look below for analysis) . . . MOST if not all of them come from THIS night: Directions (J. Zawinul) 14:44 Honky Tonk (M. Davis) 21:12 What I Say (M. Davis) 20:53 Sanctuary (W. Shorter-M. Davis) 0:40 Directions (J. Zawinul) 18:39 Funky Tonk (M. Davis) 23:56 Sanctuary (W. Shorter-M. Davis) 2:02 It's About That Time (M. Davis) 6:42 Sanctuary (W. Shorter-M. Davis) 1:18 (two sets recorded of three that night) Miles Davis (tpt); Gary Bartz (ss, as); Keith Jarrett (el-p, org); John McLaughlin (g); Michael Henderson (el-b); Jack DeJohnette (d); Airto Moreira (perc, voc); Conrad Roberts (narr) Here is the information on Live/Evil track breakdowns on Pete Losin's "Miles Ahead" website: In an interview with Teo Macero, Chris Albertson describes the 87 minutes of live material on Live-Evil as a "distillation" of "ten to fifteen" reels of tape recorded during the group's performances at the Cellar Door ("The Unmasking of Miles Davis," Saturday Review, November 27, 1971, p. 87.). Here's a rough comparison of the issued material with the unedited masters: "Sivad" (15:12) Master 0:00-0:01 (drum roll) Directions (2nd set) 0:00-0:01 0:02-3:24 Directions (2nd set) 11:30-14:44 + Honky Tonk 0:00-0:08 3:25-4:14 Honky Tonk (studio, 5/19/70) 4:15-9:11 Honky Tonk (2nd set) 5:23-10:20 9:12-15:12 Honky Tonk (2nd set) 15:13-21:14 "What I Say" (21:09) Master 0:00-20:50 What I Say (2nd set) 0:00-20:50 20:51-21:09 Sanctuary (2nd set) 0:00-0:18 "Funky Tonk" (23:23) Master 0:00-2:54 Directions (3rd set) 0:47-3:41 (theme excised) 2:55-4:53 Directions (3rd set) 3:54-5:51 (theme excised) 4:54-16:14 Directions (3rd set) 6:20-17:39 (theme excised) 16:15-16:50 Directions (3rd set) 18:03-18:39 16:51-20:12 Funky Tonk (3rd set) 0:00-3:21 20:13-20:18 Funky Tonk (3rd set) 3:59-4:04 21:19-23:23 Funky Tonk (3rd set) 4:15-6:20 "Inamorata" (26:28) Master 0:00-16:34 Funky Tonk (3rd set) 7:21-23:55 16:35-16:47 Sanctuary (3rd set) 1:50-2:02 16:47-23:08 It's About That Time (3rd set) 0:00-6:21 23:09-26:08 It's About That Time 0:00-2:59 [see note] Narration by Conrad Roberts first 0:43 26:08-26:28 Sanctuary 0:00-0:20 [see note] Note: these items not from Cellar Door

Cranking them out, just like they did at Hitsville USA! Thanks for the info!

Wow, it showed to be in stock when I posted! Weird! Fast work on someone's part maybe! -
Well, it's not over til it's over, but I hope the release date holds true this time. Been a long time since this!

Ike Quebec Comp Blue Note 45 Sessions Discography
jazzbo replied to Soulstation1's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
The Connoisseur set might also include a few tracks from the Japanese cd "From Hackensack to Englewood Cliffs"? -

www.dustygroove.com currently shows in stock an 8 dollar lp and a 23 dollar Japanese cd. -
Definitely not! I do really like his remastering work of disc-recorded sessions and his own sessions; guess it's a matter of personal tastes. . . . I'd rather he than McMaster handle his sessions tapes. . . decidedly.
-
Listened to some Kirk from the complete box set last night, about two hours worth from four of the discs. I just keep realizing what an amazing artist he was! I shouldn't be surprised by now, but he keeps on surprising! Not an easy trick. . . .

Cellar Door Miles Davis was preordered this morning via cduniverse.com
-
Preordering now possible through cduniverse.com
-
I think the two Shearing MGM cds are available from the Verve Vault. . . .
-
Great music! I've had all the music here for a long time. If these were RVGs I'd grab them all. I'll get whatever comes out on yourmusic.com
-
On cduniverse, Retrievals show up under Challenge Records. . . They are the distributor if not the home label.
-
I agree with Chuck, from a marketing standpoint this is a natural. . . they might as well get on the RVG reissue wagon as Blue Note and Verve (and even the Monk Family) have used him . . . There must be some money in it for the labels. Concord might as well come out of the ropes with something new and proven. And I happen to be one of those who likes his remastering work a lot. . . . I'd be interested in hearing these. . . I'll probably get a few.
-
They share the Dial sides. . .but differ otherwise. I'd recommend the Chronogical Classics under Howard's name. Well, I was being serious in a way. . . I think the McGhee stuff is important enough to have it all and the Classics discs are great.
-
If one opens the first link that EKE posted for Challenge, the Retrieval appears. . . .
-
In both cases I think you have the case of an out of print Japanese single lp reissue, and an out of print American combination/compilation release. . . .
-
Phantom Navigator made it to cd in the US. I have it somewhere, can't bring myself to spin it. . . not a favorite.
-
That's what I thought! Thanks Chuck.
-
I think Challenge=Retrieval. Challenge is the father company of Retrieval, it was Retrieval I believe that Harold and I meant.
-
Are you sure that the out of print cd in question is not of recordings originally done on disc? I have this somewhere and think that may well be the case. I've downloaded a half a dozen or more titles from the Vault and they sound fantastic! Most I've gotten are Japanese cds digitized directly. . . . Really great sound!
-
Problem is that. . . in reality. . . gasoline is firmly a part of American politics. . . national, international, local. . . . Wish it weren't; we'd have seen real innovations long ago!
-
Do any new jazz items appear this week? I didn't see any. BUT the Rene Olstead album has replaced the Chris Botti album as "Featured Album." What would they think of our musical tastes?
-
I'd recommend that one too; the sound is better than any other source I've heard the material on. Wnen introducing others to twenties jazz material, the better the sound the easier the task.
