  1. Good speak, plenty on top for this red-blooded American boy!
  2. I like that quote "More than I needed, less than I wanted" . . . I guess I own "more than I need, less than I want, and about as many as Sangrey's posts" . . .
  3. I have only once or twice bought something that I already had thinking that I didn't have it. Once. . . I blame the record company for "disguising" it so well! Another time I had only myself to blame. I often know I have something. . .but can't find it. That's a whole 'nother kettle of fish!
  4. Me no havee cable so me just cook by hook and crook. She photographs pretty well though if you ask me! (Rachael is on the left)
  5. Hmmmm. . .my least favorite parts of that album! Go figure. This one is highly recommended too: she does a stunning turn as a sidewoman:
  6. Well there was a Mosaic set. On a couple of Capitol cds much of this has been out. I think those Spanish guys may have a set out too. . . probably ripped right off the Mosaic.
  7. I agree with Eric, I have yet to hear one that I don't enjoy. I guess Without Words and For the Moment get the most play in my listening world. . . .
  8. Hey, anyone know the address of The Red Rooster club in Philly where the historic meeting of Trane and Tyner occurred? I ask because. . . I lived at the corner of Baldwin and Summerset (I think I have that spelled right and that it is the right street corner) from 1957 to 1966 and on the other corner of the same side of the street was a bar, The Red Rooster. . . .! Anyone know if this Rooster was near Connie Mack Stadium at that time?
  9. I like Eddie Gale. The bits from his Sun Ra tenure that I've identified are great. His Blue Notes are very much up my alley; I like their fusion of American music forms and I think he was quite clever with his arrangement and leadership on these. I've heard a few bits of his work since then and want to hear more.
  10. Right, "Three Latin Adventures" which included Felin 712, Latin Kaleidoscope and Cuban Fire. There was also a cd that reissued "All Blues" and "Sax No End." (An excellent cd!)
  11. That is a great show and it will be wonderful to see the film one day. . . hope hope hope!
  12. Yes, I really like the McRae collaboration (though I hardly think it's HER best work!) The Rearward cs from Italy are very nice! (Only the Strauss is really a Clarke Boland Big Band date; the others are small group sessions with personnel drawn from the band). They come in a sort of pressboard digipak with a separate booklet that is bound and packed with pages. Wonderful cd sound too and great performances! There is also a jewel case cd from them of a Karl Drewo lp that is "sort of" a CBBB small band date. MPS Germany has the Mark Murphy collaboration out, as well as a quartet date of Francy Boland's that is very good. . . . MPS Germany released three cds recently of All Smiles, More Smiles and Felini 712 all in fantastic remastering and with original cover and liner notes. These are great sessions. (Felini 712 was part of a previous MPS cd). Two CBBB sessions were on cd from Collectables recently, Handle with Care and Hear Our Meaning (and Handle with Care was out on Koch in possibly better sound as well on cd). There was also of course the sortof seminal recording that Blue Note leased for lp (The Golden Eight) and Blue Note Japan has released on cd (twice). There are likely other cd releases. There are still other titles that could be released. . . PLEASE. . . on cd. One of my favorites is the Sahib Shihab on Argo. . .has this come out on cd from Japan?
  13. "Jack Teagarden: Jazz Maverick" ---I was delighted to win this book on ebay from Britain!

    Sonny Clark SACD

It definitely sounds better than the old Bainbridge cd! I'm not that wowed by a lot of SACD. . . my new Decware modified (tube stage coming right off the DAC) SACD/DVD/CD player makes cds sound so good that SACD is not the huge improvement I thought it would be. Right now my favorite SACD is Louis Armstrong's "Plays W. C. Handy." The magic of the original recording just shines through. Trummy Young's trombone is startlingly real. But a lot of these factors are system dependent---with a forward sounding system this may be the very ticket.

    Sonny Clark SACD

You know I have this and it sounds nice but it doesn't sound spectacular to me! Great playing though.
  16. I'm not near my stuff, but I think that other Supraphon (yes, it's not the same lp Jim) is not a compilation but the result of a day's recording.
  17. That one Supraphon (is it a compilation?) sounds better than the Muse does. . . I've never seen the Muse in any other form.
  18. That search function can be a hassle when you're fully rested! Turns out it wasn't there after all, David had started a thread about it: Ghost of Miles' thread about the Marsh reissue
  19. This has been mentioned in the long Warne Marsh thread. . . . Made me preorder it. . . can't wait for it to ship!
  20. Yes, he should have said something like "Before Louis Armstrong, everyone used to sing *I love you you love me in June spoon moon* and then after Louis everyone was like **OOH MAMA YEAH WOMP FROM WAY DOWN UH HUH** "
  21. It's definitely not a Russell or a Whetling painting! I've never seen Ann Peacock's work. . . .
  22. Glad you're back! REALLY GLAD!
  23. Cool. I know I didn't pay more than list price, even paid a sales price. . . it just HURT that day enough to feel like 95!
  24. I have a nagging feeling that the Cannonball Plays Zawinul disc is meant to include the "jazzier" stuff on Capitol that is left that they plan on releasing, and plans for the rest aren't a priority. . . I HOPE I'M WRONG.
