  5. Starting off a beautiful morning with a disc I have not spun in a while. I need to get more Weber Iago. Such an interesting writer and pianist. Weber Iago “Os Filhos Do Vento: Children of the Wind” Adventure Music cd This is more classical than jazz . . . pastoral, evoking vivid texture.
  6. I have and really enjoy the six cd complete set, but someone gave me this promo sampler. . . and wow. Wow. This is a great disc, a great summation of the set. “Things Ain’t What they Used to Be” right where it is is very effective.
  7. Another, later, Kenny Burrell. “Stormy Monday Blues” Fantasy/OJC cd Combines the albums “Stormy Monday” and “Sky Street” “Stormy Monday” Kenny Burrell - guitar Richard Wyands - piano John Heard - bass Lenny McBrowne, or Richie Goldberg - drums “Sky Street” Kenny Burrell - guitar Jerome Richardson - tenor saxophone, soprano saxophone, flute Kirk Lightsey - piano, electric piano Stanley Gilbert - bass Eddie Marshall - drums
  8. Yes, I know many artists are not offering cds now. I don't do audio on a computer so I'm not going to be buying WAV files . . . probably not. It is tempting to get all of Ms Henderson's catalog at once, but my luck with downloading and burning cdrs etc. has not been good the last few years and I will probably forego the files route. I'll investigate her music via cds as I see fit to spend the money.
  9. Jefferson Airplane “Crown of Creation” Culture Factory cd Great to listen to this music from my long ago past.
  10. Chet Baker “My Funny Valentine” Pacific Jazz/EMI Norway 2 cd set, disc 2 This is a 2 cd set from Norway. The first disc is a best of Pacific Jazz compilation, the second disc is a collection of rare recordings from '84 to '88, six from Norway, one from Paris, France. Excellent sound on these rare tracks, great playing. https://www.discogs.com/release/1206664-Chet-Baker-My-Funny-Valentine
  11. Art Pepper Quartet “An Afternoon in Norway–The Kongsberg Concert” Elemental Music 2 cd set, disc 1
  12. I forgot what a great album this is with that vibe that only Big Joe backed by Basie can really deliver so well. Great band! Count Basie & Big Joe Turner “The Bosses” Pablo/OJC cd Big Joe Turner - vocals Count Basie - piano, organ Irving Ashby - guitar Ray Brown - double bass Louie Bellson - drums Harry “Sweets” Edison - trumpet J.J. Johnson - trombone Eddie “Lockjaw” Davis - tenor saxophone Zoot Sims - tenor saxophone
  13. A warm, clear, dry morning. A great way to start the day is this nicely-recorded gently swinging session. “Paul Meyers Quartet featuring Frank Wess with special guest Andy Bey” Miles High cd Guitarist Paul Meyers, Frank Wess on tenor saxophone and flute, bassist Martin Wind, drummer Tony Jefferson–Andy Bey on “Lazy Afternoon”
  14. Kenny Burrell “Asphalt Canyon Suite” Verve Japan SHM-CD My guess is that the four alternates released on cd in Japan in 2014 are all there is to worthy of release. Just my guess however.
  15. Kenny Burrell “Night Song” Verve Japan cd Six sessions together yielding a great sounding album. “Blues for Wes” has some great octave-playing by Kenny, a real tribute.
  16. Herbie Hancock "Empyrean Isles" Blue Note Japan 85th Annniversary SHM-SACD
  17. A late start today. On another board they are discussing this title and I decided to pop a copy of the SHM-SACD in. Not my favorite Larry Young recording perhaps, but what a band--Woody Shaw, Joe Henderson and Elvin Jones joining Larry Young. Larry Young "Unity" Blue Note Japan 85th Anniversary SHM-SACD
  18. The Elsbeth season finale.
  19. I lost space moving into this expanded cottage with my wife ten years ago. . .I have a climate controlled storage space as well as perhaps enough space for a normal person here. I've been blessed with good hearing and eyesight (I'm 69 and still don't wear glasses, though all my family has since adolescence, parents and siblings). My hearing was recently checked and is quite good--wish my wife's was--I protected my ears during my drumming and motorcycling days. If things were different, things would be different.
  20. It can all fit on one SACD, which has a larger capacity than a cd, it would not all fit on one cd.
  21. Well there are various versions . . . a straight album, ones with a few additional tracks, and this one with even more material, released over time. I like to have and compare versions, it's something I've done for decades. In this case this best version was just released in the last two weeks in two formats. Comparing teaches me about systems and engineering, something I used to do and have done a few times since my band days for a few friends. I will probably thin the herd of some of these in time, I do that, I have sort of semi-annual purges when I have the time to go through the collection objectively. (Right now I have about 30 Japanese and 20 US cds that are duplicates I've culled from the shelves). In cases where I have SACD and cd titles, I tend to keep one of each, as in some cases the SACD is not a hybrid (as in this case) and I still play cds in one system and the car that are not SACD capable. I'm just both an audiophile and collector and they merge in many instances. Blue Note, Impulse and Bethlehem are three labels I tend to be a completist of and keep duplicates often.
  22. Kenny Burrell with Art Blakey “On View At the Five Spot.Cafe” Blue Note Japan SHM-SACD I have about five versions of this on cd and SACD and this one is THE one to listen to. And has additional material. I have listned to the new UHQCD set and it sounds really good too, but this one just has that edge goosing it into the “best” category that SACD always seems to have in my system. Worth the wait for sure!
  23. That's cool. I don't do files or stream. Some day if I am feeling really confident and adventurous I may try the downloading and burning to cdr. . . but that won't be soon.
  24. Great! This cd was cheap compared to what I see of her others. . . and I'm not sure there are downloads. If there are that's a good way to go.
  25. Xanadu All Stars “Xanadu in Africa–Night Flight from Dakar” disc 2
