  1. Earl Hines & Jimmy Rushing "Blues & Things" Master Jazz/New World cd WOW. I forgot how great this disc is. Five masters who know what to do, and boy do they get it done. And the producer and engineer are right there with them, capturing all the nuances and presenting them to you gently, as if you were sitting fifteen feet away in awe. Such a relaxed swing and careful yet happy delivery. WOW.
  2. Duke Ellington "Such Sweet Thunder" CBS France cd
  3. "Chet Baker in Paris" box set of the Barclay Recordings, disc 1. I just adore the nine performances with Dick Twardzik; it's tragic we lost him so young.
  4. 1883, got caught up over the weekend. My wife, who usually doesn't like violent shows, really likes this one. I think it's because she's eerily like one of the characters.
  5. That's a great Mann record. Right now Dexter Gordon Quartet "Live in Chateauvallon" Elemental Music disc 1 of 2 Nicely recorded at the Jazz Festival in '78. With George Cables, Rufus Reid and Eddie Gladden.
  6. Jimmy Rushing (and Friends) "Every Day" Vanguard cd It took me a bit of time to get over how "collaged" these Vanguard cds are, but man they sound great and have killer groovy music.
  7. When I sit down with one I'll ask.
  8. No, it's not mono. And it doesn't have the treble edge that the box set version has. I do have a mono version in the Mono Albums box set (mine is the Japanese issue). It too sounds very good. . . but I don't prefer the mono for this title.
  9. Sony Records SRCS-9703, Miles Davis "+19 Miles Ahead." This is my favorite digital version of this material; DSD mastered. http://www.plosin.com/MilesAhead/Disco.aspx?id=Ahead-CD3
  10. BuJazzO "A Tribute To The Clarke-Boland Big Band" Well-rehearsed and recorded live big band jazz with the Clarke-Boland spice seasoned just right. Perhaps the soloing is not up to the original band, perhaps not. https://www.challengerecords.com/products/16159938677329
  11. Another very interesting singer: Lady Blackbird. Her cd "Black Acid Soul" . . . . A cool listen for bass-players or fans of the bass. Recorded too loud darn it, but manageable. Purists may not like this one but it's new shine doesn't hurt the ears.
  12. This gal is very cool. Classic and new combined in a neat fusion. Recorded too loud, but I can get to a great volume level without much of a disadvantage. Ms Maita reminds me at times of another singer I really admire, Gigi. Luisa Maita "Lero Lero"
  13. Supposedly this is not Slug's nor even the US.
  14. I never thought I would quote a Fleetwood Mac song, but this line has increasing significance sine the end of 2020: Damn your lies!

  15. This lot of 5 Trumbauer discs that were at a great price.
  16. I have the live 2 cd set, and the one following that. I really really like the trio supporting him. His own playing, and his composing. . . I don't quite get that.
  17. Thanks to Peter Churches: 1967, photo by Dutch pianist Rein De Graaf, printed from negative by Peter Leitch. https://m.facebook.com/.../a.5608739.../1769079686516900/...
  18. Yes, April 30, a week later.
  19. I think it's the mastering; I've moved on to Japanese 21st century releases of these titles which sound a bit clearer and a bit more dynamic to me.
  20. Antonio Carlos Jobim "Terra Brasilia" I have come to appreciate later Jobim more and more. Music to watch falling snow by.
  21. Looking at Elemental's page a 4 cd set will be released April 30!
  22. I'm with you hoping for a cd set!
  23. Horace Silver "A Prescription for the Blues" Impulse cd Horace Silver, Michael Brecker, Randy Brecker, Ron Carter, Louis Hayes Good for what ails me this morning.
  24. Wynton Kelly "Undiluted" Universal Japan SHM-CD Wynton Kelly, Paul Chambers, Jimmy Cobb
  25. SFJazz Collective "The Music of Antonio Carlos Jobim and Original Compositions" disc 2 (the original compositions disc)
