  1. No music for me. My neighborhood--and my house across the road from a state wildlife preserve (acres and acres of forest) is so quiet, punctuated by the wind in the trees, the occasional call of an owl. . . I just fall asleep with that gentle background.
  2. Starting off where I left off on this disc a few days ago with the Memphis Horns segment. Aretha Franklin and King Curtis with the Memphis Horns and Billy Preston Live at the Fillmore "Don't Fight the Feeling" WEA Japan 4 cd set, disc 3
  3. My biggest hardship is I can't seem to get my Wallaby keefir. I'm a lucky man.
  4. I still have my LP of this session which I bought when it was still fairly a new release, but this SHM-SACD is free from decades of wear and sounds very nice (I think it sounds right with my DAC in "Out" phase). Just such great music. This is where I heard Flora Purim and said "Wow" and followed her everywhere in that decade. Such a killer release. . .important in my listening life. Chick Corea "Return to Forever" ECM-Universal Japan SHM-SACD
  5. Yes, with George Rains on drums, a real nice guy who can play. Used to watch him weekly at Antone's in the 'eighties.
  6. More saw. But another tune as well. I'll keep an eye out for it.
  7. He did blow his lip off. He has a few good records, I really like this one and the tribute to Fats.
  8. Mac Gollehon's Smokin' Section "Live at the Blue Note" Smoke 'em if you got 'em.
  9. Keith Jarrett Trio "Tokyo '96" ECM cd Keith is not like Miles. . . he'll look back. One of my favorites from this trio.
  10. Bill Evans Trio "On a Friday Evening" cd Great sound. I think the Plangent Process should be used more often. A lot more often. Hopefully it will in the future. If I had a billion dollars I would dedicate a lot to somehow developing a home version for playback.
  11. Kenny Burrell "Blue Lights Vol. 2" Blue Note Japan SHM-CD Honestly it doesn't get much better than this. Love both volumes.
  12. Mahavishnu Orchestra "Birds of Fire" Audio Fidelity SACD
  13. Charles Bell and the Contemporary Jazz Quartet "Another Dimension" Atlantic/Warner Japan cd (stereo) A mono copy of this record was one of the first LPs I ever owned, and one of three jazz records from Atlantic that were in boxes of LPs given to Peace Corps volunteers in Swaziland (now Eswatini) in 1968 as a nice present. One of the volunteers that received these didn't like jazz and gave me three jazz LPs, this among them. (I think he wanted to be nice to me, but then again my Dad was his boss, the Director of the first Peace Corps program in Swaziland, he may have been sucking up, or both). These albums (the other two were Leo Wright "Blues Shout" and Slide Hampton "Sister Salvation") seditiously over time turned me into the obsessive jazz listener that I am. I love this music. I still have the LP, in playable shape. Eventually Japan released this on cd, and in nice stereo in great sound.
  14. I think he is still doing pretty good work. Many younger engineers are doing worse. It's all relative due to producers, labels et al.
  15. Archie Shepp "Lover Man" Timeless/Solid Records cd
  16. Jethro Tull "A" Deluxe "A La Mode" edition, 2020 cd 1 If you ever can't decide between playing Jethro Tull or the Mahavishnu Orchestra, try this one. . . .
  17. Yes, a nice touch. An improved cover, and improved sound too.
  18. The new reissue certainly has different cover art. I may prefer it. . .but then I like any cover with Marie Moor on board.
  19. Something completely different Barney Wilen "French Ballads"
  20. Sam Sanders "Mirror, Mirror" Strata Records, cd Man, this is a time machine recording.
  21. Caecilie Norby
  22. They are all excellent sets and to my ears the best the material has sounded on US cd.
  23. Joe Lovano "Tenor Legacy" Blue Note cd
  24. Miles Davis Blue Note material, John Coltrane sideman Blue Note material, and the Clifford Brown Blue Note material as leader and with Blakey.
  25. This is a good cure for your problem and highly recommended: A 2 cd set in great sound.
