  1. SFJazz Collective "Music of Miles Davis and Original Compositions" disc 2
  2. Swinging into Wednesday. So glad I can be in front of the stereo! Count Basie Big Band "Farmers Market Barbecue" OJC Pablo cd
  3. So sorry Michael, stay strong.
  4. A nitpick perhaps but the Brooks set came out in '85 and the Redd in '89 . . . which I would not consider "the early 'eighties." Okay, my chronological OCD is satisfied. Carry on.
  5. "The Learning Tree"--Jimmy Rushing!
  6. I know three people who have died, though not as close friends. And my father is in hospice because of COVID--he caught it and it threw the years long struggle to get his blood pressure (he had orthostatic hypotension really bad and over the course of ten years they finally got it manageable and COVID destroyed the balance) right out the window and supported by two aides recovering he fell and broke his ankle in two places. . . and has not really been out of bed since as he could not do PT due to his blood pressure dropping many many points when he stands. I guess it's a blessing that Omicron is not as DEADLY as Delta. But nearing 8 and a half hundred thousand deaths; that's scary just to think about.
  7. Hello! Looks like a beautiful spot.
  8. I favor that one because he incorporated a little info from my interview with Michael Cuscuna about Alfred Lion, and credited it. As Cliff says not perfect but worth reading.
  9. I watched the first episode of that series with my wife and it got the "meh" of death. I have so much to watch, I may return to it and check that episode out.
  10. Last one for me this morning before heading out to Dad's. Chie "Ilha de Sol" Japanese singer doing amazing Brazilian music.
  11. It's a wonky record with a different actual track listing on the record than on the sleeve. More here from Hartman than listed there. Hill's trio backs Johnny and the two Hill numbers without Johnny are trio. It's interesting. . . you can hear the roots of the Blue Note Hill here. . . but he's not playing in that manner overall. Sound is okay. Not great--not bad--mono. Right now Dizzy Gillespie Jam Montreux '77, Pablo LP Bags! He makes the record for me.
  12. "Tommy Turrentine" Audio Fidelity SACD
  13. One of my favorite recordings of all time. Slim Gaillard Rides Again, Verve cd
  14. SFJazz Collective "Miguel Zenon Retrospective: Original Compositions, 2004 to 2016" Disc 2, performances from 2010 to 2016 Zenon's contributions have been among my favorites of the SFJazz Collective discs I have, and this compilation is a great listen.
  15. I don't think you'll get an answer from Mr. Cuscuna here. . . you may want to use the contact form at mosaicrecords.com
  16. Surprising everyone he was featured on "Lovely Lonely Man."
  17. Duke Ellington "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" Reprise Records. Special guest appearance by John Coltrane.
  18. And now for the harmolodic part of the morning. Chris Potter "Vertigo" Concord cd
  19. Kenny Cox "Clap! Clap! The Joyful Noise!" Strata cd Very different from his earlier work that is straight ahead jazz. But an interesting listen with cool engineering.
  20. This complete has the release that came after the two separate boxes came out: https://superdeluxeedition.com/news/weather-report-the-legendary-live-tapes-1978-1981-4cd-box/
