  1. My suspicion that they may not exist stems from an interview with Michael Cuscuna wherein he told me that he had given back tapes to musicians of rejected Blue Note sessions to be destroyed as they did not want them released. I specifically remember him saying he gave tapes back to Horace Silver and I can't remember specifically if he mentioned Wayne as well. That was in conversation with him not for publication, and so it doesn't appear in the published interview. I have the tape. . . somewhere. . . I think. Somewhere. . . not sure where right now.
  2. It now seems weird to see unmasked persons everywhere I go--Ohio lifted mask regulation for those vaccinated. And there are a lot of liars out there saying they were vaccinated (less than half the Ohio adults have received at least one shot).
  3. "John Hicks" Evidence cd Bass – Walter Booker Drums – Idris Muhammad (tracks: 9) Piano – Olympia Hicks (tracks: 6) Piano, Producer – John Hicks Vibraphone – Bobby Hutcherson
  4. amazon has the two versions available for pre-order.
  5. I don't expect that Washington to be reissued. But I'd love to see it. I wonder if the tapes to the Shorter session even exist.
  6. I didn't buy it, I traded for it with another Coltrane nut.
  7. I have this material I believe on a cassette release. I find the material fascinating, but it's definitely not for everyone. I'll order this cd next time I make a big order from cdjapan (I can't add it to the order I have in place as I used a coupon for that order and you can't change an order you've used a coupon on).
  8. Yes. And here is another one by his daughter. Sabrina Malheiros "Dreaming" I could have been fooled into thinking that several of these tracks were performed by Monday Michiru. That's a good thing.
  9. Chick Corea "Circulus" Blue Note Japan cd I'm not sure my dachshund Fiona is a fan of this abstract intellectual jazz. On toYusef Lateef "Lost in Sound" Charlie Parker/Solid Records Japan cd This is more to her liking; she settled down into a nice nap. I have a funny history with the LP version of this material. Back in the early 'seventies I bought a Chartlie Parker LP on Charlie Parker Records and was mystified at what I heard. . . tenor, that didn't sound like Bird, and stereo. . . .rather mysterious, I knew it wasn't Parker, but I liked it. In time I did some detective work and discovered that it was "Lost in Sound." I figured out it was Lateef first when I bought his two LP reissue set of Impulse material on ABC Records.
  10. Dave Liebman & Bobby Avey "Vienna Dialogues" Zoho cd
  11. Barney Wilen "Passione" Venus cd Barney Wilen "Passione" Venus cd. I love Barney. I'm not a great fan of the Venus Records sound but this is not the worst example. In parts it reminds me of the work of Dave Douglas and Joe Lovano together (years later) as Enrico Rava is a real partner here and the arrangements are inventive. And having the lovely Marie Moor on the covers is not a bad thing. Then on to: Alex Malheiros & Banda Utopia featuring Sabrina Malheiros "The Wave" Perfect for this morning, beautifully recorded Brazilian jazz.
  12. Jose James "Yesterday I had the Blues: the Music of Billie Holiday" Blue Note cd One of the few newer releases I have on both 2LP set and cd--listening to the cd right now. One of those magic sessions where the performance, the repretoire and the engineering blend together to create an experience.
  13. Better Call Saul, Season 5 Today I'm wondering about the orgin of the word "culvert". . . .
  14. Wayne Shorter "Speak No Evil" Blue Note Japan SHM-SACD
  15. Jack Teagarden "This is Teagarden!" Capitol Records/TOCJ Japan Superbit Jazz Classics cd. Featuring Big Band frontman and vocalist "Jackson." I wish all the Capitol releases were available in this remastered LP facsimile version. Great stuff. . . . I wish there were more Tea.
  16. Started off with this one again. Once you fully embrace the fact that this is a film soundtrack tribute album in important ways, and accept the instrumentation, arrangements and "drama," there is much to enjoy here, especially in the guitar and piano solos, and there's also a prog-rock feel to portions that appeals to the long-unprovoked old prog rock fan in me. Albare, "Dreamtime"
  17. Albare, "Dreamtime"
  18. Fabiano Do Nascimento, "Tempo Dos Mestres" Brazilian guitar master with percussion and flute and reeds. I don't know how to describe this music except that it is atmospheric, expertly arranged and played, beautiful and expertly engineered.
  19. Chet Baker "My Favorite Concert, Volume 1" Enja/Solid Records Japan cd
  20. Ron Miles "Rainbow Sign" Blue Note Japan cd One additional track not on other editions.
  21. Seu Jorge and Almaz, Far Out cd.
  22. "The Eddy" Soundtrack from the Netflix series cd Nice stuff. Oops, that one has to come out. . .defective cd On to. . . Dollar Brand "African Sketchbook" Enja/Solid Records Japan cd
  23. If you haven't heard this one, its EXCELLENT.
