  1. Terry Morel "Songs of a Woman in Love" Bethlehem/Solid Records Japan cd A Sunday kind of disc. This reminds me of the kind of music my Mom would like me to put on when she had time to relax and read. She was a big Rosemary Clooney fan. This isn't Clooney, but I think she would like it. Ralph Sharon is on piano and Herbie Mann is playing some nice flute accompaniment.
  2. Antonio Carlos Jobim "Stone Flower" CTI SHM-CD (RVG remastered)
  3. Lafayette Gilchrist & The New Volcanoes "Deep Dancing Suite" (Manta Ray Records)
  4. Miles Davis (and Gil Evans) "Porgy and Bess" Mobile Fidelity SACD New (to me) speaker cables in place and this disc is sounding killer for possibly the first time (I thought it sounded really good before but it's delivered better now). Evans created threads of sound as no one else. This is one of those albums you can listen to for decades (I have) and still be swept away within (I have, I am).
  5. Stefon Harris "The Grand Unification Theory" Blue Note cd This one is one of my favorites of his. So much to enjoy here in arrangements, solos, engineering. Not a "let's just do a record" record--much thought and energy are put into play.
  6. Yes, I have a number of his recordings and he's a master. I plan to listen to this solo piano one next: All the volumes in this series are excellent.
  7. Sounds like a good ratonal plan. Imagine that!
  8. Follow all instructions and get well as soon as possible Dmitry.
  9. To me looks more than a little like Francis Wayne, the singer.
  10. More, later Carmen. Carmen McCrae "Live at Birdland West: Fine and Mellow" Concord SACD Check out this band. They COOK. Carmen McRae - vocals Red Holloway - alto saxophone, tenor saxophone Jack McDuff - electric organ Phil Upchurch - guitar John Clayton - double bass Paul Humphrey - drums
  11. Carmen McRae "Haven't We Met?" Mainstream/Solid Records Japan cd I love this woman's singing. Though I prefer her with a small combo, this is a nice big band date where she really responds to the big sounds backing her. Her phrasing was so nimble yet solid. And I'm not a big fan of vibrato but hers I dig a lot
  12. I would not make that assumption myself.
  13. Earlier this morning I listened to the Sonny Rollins tracks from this LP added to an Essential Jazz cd that included the "What's New" LP. These sides recorded at the Music Inn are astonishing. Sonny in 1958 was like a monolith standing tall and his ecstatic playing encompasses jazz history with Bud, Pres, Hawk, Bird and Monk in his mind and breath and a mastery of both the horn and the art of voicing idea and melody. I have'nt had this one in the player in a while. A very nice Friday morning record. This is Monday at her best, spanning genres with a relaxed strut and her voice is such a positive and graceful lovely paint brush over these grooving arrangements. Monday Michiru, "My Ever Changing Moods"
  14. That looks as if it sounds interesting.
  15. Jovino Santos Neto Quinteto "Por Causa de Voce/Because of You: A Birthday Celebration of Antonio Carlos Jobim" featuring Maucha Andet and Romero Lubambo All I can say is everytime I play this cd I feel so much better. Beautiful music, excellent live recording. Swinging, real jazz feeling, excellent singing and playing.
  16. I don't have specific similar experience but I bought an RP3 with the TTPSU and the Elys2 cartridge. I then incrementally added all the Groovetracer mods you can to the turntable and moved to the white Rega belt. Every step of the way was an improvement and the complete complement really upped the sonic quality of the RP3. I would imagine that the Rega model ladder reflects similar gains in sonic quality as one moves up. These Groovetracer mods are available for the P1 and they can be added one by one so if you got the P1 you could start getting a bit better sound modification by modification. . . .
  17. Yes, I think you'll like it and enjoy their work. The only real downside to this is that it's short!
  18. Kurt Elling "Man in the Air" Blue Note cd. This one scratches two itches for me: one to hear Mr. Elling, one to hear Mr. Harris. "Resolution" is a masterwork. This is an album where the arrangements, performances and engineering blend so well.
  19. Clifton Anderson "Been Down this Road Before" Rope a Dope Records cd Enjoying this one. Very nicely produced cd, the music seems timeless in its modern jazz way. Trombone, Didgeridoo, Percussion - Clifton Anderson Saxophones and Reeds - Renee McLean, Antoine Roney, Eric Wyatt Guitar - Peter Bernstein Keyboards - John F. Adams, Monty Alexander, Stephen Scott, Tadataka Unno Bass - Buster Williams, Tom Barney Drums - Ronnie Burrage, Al Foster, Steve Jordan Percussion - Sammy Figueroa, Victor See Yuen Vocals - Andy Bey Background Vocals - Mala Waldron, Angela Workman, John F. Adams
  20. Richard Sears Sextet featuring Albert Heath "Altadena" Richard Sears – piano, composition, Kirk Knuffke – cornet, Patrick Wolff – tenor saxophone, Steven Lugener – bass clarinet, alto saxophone, Garret Lang – bass, Albert Heath – drums I ordered the new Clifton Anderson cd from Rope a Dope Records on a day when they were including two free discs with an order, and this was one of the discs they included. Glad they did. It's very good.
  21. (Bootleg copy) disc 2
  22. Yes me too. If you ask several people who know me well you'd find I told them I suspected some sort of dire stuff like this would happen today. Most didn't share my prediction.
  23. Bob Dylan "50th Anniversary Collection: 1970" disc 1 I bought a bootleg copy of this. . . just before they announced it was to be officially released. Took forever for USPS to get it to me.
