  1. It has to be a world play for "oil slick" and the slang meaning of slick. Maybe worthy of a chuckle?
  2. LP: I rank that second disc very high, it's really an amazing performance. MJ: I've heard several versions of the '75 from collector's circles. . . none sound better than the Sony version in this set.
  3. Dreamer. Nice dream. . . but. . . .If it happens won't be in 4.
  4. I'd like to see the Duke Ellington produced Reprise sessions. I bet there's more there in the vaults, or I'd like to think so.
  5. Pops played with them, and that's probably their best work. But they were serious in my estimation, played well.
  6. 1. Don't know what this is but for me it's cheaper via amazon and I ordered it a few days ago. 2. These two are different performances: https://www.discogs.com/Woody-Shaw-With-Tone-Jansa-Quartet-Woody-Shaw-With-Tone-Jansa-Quartet/release/8774207 https://www.discogs.com/Tone-Jan%C5%A1a-Kvartet-Featuring-Woody-Shaw-Dr-Chi/release/9967284
  7. Hmmm. . . I don't know, I haven't encountered any cdrs myself, but i've bought each volume as they were released. I think a query to "The Music Room" might get answers. . . they are the direct store of Storyvlle themselves it seems. https://www.musicroom.com/
  8. It's even cheaper via other amazons.
  9. We're all different. I love Cassandra and find much of her work for Blue Note exciting.
  10. I found that thread and prompted the seeker to this thread. . . he is offering considerably less.
  11. "Want to Buy" -- you may not be able to see this as a non-member. .. .I think even if you are a member it takes a number of posts to view the classifieds area. I found that thread and prompted the seeker to this thread. . . he is offering considerably less.
  12. Keep the faith. One will come up.
  13. They are both TOCJ, and they both sound very good to me.
  14. I don't think we'll ever see it until Michael Cuscuna severs all ties with EMI/Universal. That description of Bob Belden and Michael listening to it and laughing will damn and prevent its release til then. I did. I think you'd be surprised how many did.
  15. I followed the Storyville page and added it to the basket and ended up in a music store I think in Germany, "musicroom" -- perhaps it was in Sweden. It was not as cheap as the amazon.com price but is here now not later. . . . I was eager to have the final volume, I have all 25. There was a time that I thought Storyville might not continue this series, glad I was wrong.
  16. I got Vol. 25 in the mail today from Germany and am spinning disc 1. Does it surprise anyone that it sounds great?
  17. I don't think we'll ever see it until Michael Cuscuna severs all ties with EMI/Universal. That description of Bob Belden and Michael listening to it and laughing will damn and prevent its release til then. We got "Natural Essence" twice on cd from Japan so there's at least that.
  18. As far as I know this label has been legitimately issuing recordings licensed from the original companies. And the sound of those I have have been very good, especially this decade.
  19. No argument from me, I did say "at least." There seems to be little interest to revisit the first decade and initially beyond--probably little outside the Monk has sold well in the past. But I'd love to see the type of restoration and mastering applied to this material that technology now allows; I love this music.
  20. I'd like to see them reissue new remasaterings of at least all the material released in 1939.
  21. Both of these have been released in Japan (in October 2015) and are still available via cdjapan. They sound great.
  22. Yes, all US cd versions since the remix appeared but the one in the Complete Columbia Albums box set (and the vinyl in the 40th Anniversary set) are the remix.
