  1. This week's episode is on my list to watch today or tomorrow. I like the show a lot, like you I've been in it since the beginning and like the way it has unfolded. Both leads are doing good work imo.
  2. Just that it's not as thick and heavy sounding as the RVG, it seems to let the sound out quicker with no overhang. Just a way that I personally think about reproduced music. I really like the RVG series, I can turn my treble cut circuit down a little and most sound really good on my system. They have a beefiness to the sound that I prefer to the thin sound of McMasters of any vintage and a vividness and energy that I prefer to the Blue Note Works versions. These new 75th anniversary remasters lack the beefy meatiness of many RVGs, they seem lighter on their feet, quicker. (I guess that's a silly way to talk about music reproduction but I'm silly). They have a very good depth to the sound and there are little details better presented than the RVGs. I'd distill down to one copy of all these dates I now have in the 75th series. . . but I have every US RVG, many Japanese ones, and the entire US Prestige RVG series. Nice to keep whole series that you collected with interest, so I am keeping them. But realistically, I think each of these new remasters that I have are for me the definitive digital version now (I don't do downloads.) Even when a few don't sound that great (Demon's Dance or I'm Trying to Get Back Home for example, not audiophile pleasing recordings) they still sound improved over earlier versions, to me on my systems.
  3. This new one is a very good transfer. I like the RVG as well, but this one is more dynamic, and "quicker" sounding. . . without being tinny or harsh.
  4. MANY happy returns!
  5. I'm with you, those are the two I most listen to.
  6. Outback and Penny Arcade are still available via cdjapan in the CTI Supreme series that uses flat transfers and are pressed on Blu-Spec 2 CD and go for about 9 dollars each these days. I'd go for these . . .they sound excellent; this series has the best sound I've heard of CTI on digital.
  7. I like this date a lot too. It screams "Church" to me, brings back sounds of the Philadelphia church I grew up in in the late 'fifties and first half of the 'sixties. It does not sound like most other Blue Notes, so I honestly think that the sound is meant to be different, to give this "I'm sitting in the congregation and this is playing out before me" feel to the sound. I have the TOCJ of this as well, and this SHM-CD offers a bit more clarity and a bit more dynamic contrast. It's never going to be an audiophile sounding session, but it is "transporting" for me. Interesting to note that Byrd and Pearson are listed as producers (each producing three tracks) in one entry of discogs.com. Alfred Lion of course is listed as producer elsewhere.
  8. Have listened to these from the new batch so far: UCCQ 5098 Donald Byrd: A New Perspective UCCQ 5102 Herbie Hancock: Inventions & Dimensions +2 UCCQ 5108 Wayne Shorter: Night Dreamer +1 UCCQ 5111 Donald Byrd: I’m Tryin’ To Get Home UCCQ 5114 Bobby Hutcherson: Dialogue +1 UCCQ 5118 Andrew Hill: Compulsion UCCQ 5119 Don Cherry: Complete Communion I'm glad I got each one. Each sounds very very nice.
  9. Hope it was a great one Claude!
  10. We may have to wait as long as a month or more. . . but it will then be probably 12.99 or so.
  11. He was a very unique rock bassist. Quite a character. RIP. Kirke is a very solid drummer as well, each of those four were so well-suited for each other and the music. Those slow grooves. . . Fraser and Kirke were uncommonly good at creating those. And Fraser was a very melodic and precise player.
  12. Looking forward to it (and from another source than this one).
  13. I like Dark Heineken a lot, but it's really hard to find in these parts. I've enjoyed a number of different beers as favorites including Carta Blanca, Foster's lager, Shiner Bock, Carlsburg (especially Elephant) and Sol. I'm not a big drinker, and not a Connoisseur.
  14. I don't believe the Farrell box has been released yet.
  15. I see a lot of distinction, but I'm a student of such things. World of difference really but this is not the place.
  16. It doesn't sound as if it's sourced from a multigenerational damaged copy to me, but it doesn't sound like a normal RVG recording. I'd like to know the story on that. It sounds like a church concert to me, as if you were in the back pews and the band and choir were on the stage behind the pulpit. And maybe that's the point. Sounds better on this SHM-CD release. But you may still consider it bad. Very narrow stereo, congested. In its way moving though.
  17. Not commenting on the nuttiness or not, but NOT a "demigod." The Word incarnate, the Son of God, not a son of a god in the Greek sense. ejp, saw lots of evidence of "missing something and hoping to find" in these friends and cohabitants. And I was too. . . just was not looking to Scientology to find that, and found what I needed independently of Scientology and left that place and started my real life.
  18. I lived with members of the Org in Austin for a few years in the late 'eighties. . . rented a garage apartmen at a house where four to six of them were renting rooms. Nice people, quite misguided. I remember it with sadness because of the misery these people were suffering quietly. . . making no money, living poorly, thinking they were saving the world. I only know of one of them that is still in the Org. He married the widow of an important part of the Org and climbed the ladder.
  19. Just got in the 10 I ordered from this new batch. May not get much of a hance to listen today, but had the joy of opening them all up. Interestingly enough none of these had a center card tray photo, they all have black, not clear center trays. A first for this (last batch apparently) series.
  20. Total cost would be about 18.50 US today.
  21. Black Sails Season Finale. This second season has been one great WTF bit after another.
  22. Hope it was a great one!
  23. The Japanese version I was talking about was of the Cassandra Wilson upcoming US release. Not too surpised to see all the negativity. It's very cheap from France: http://www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B00U6WPESU?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00 This link shows the contents as well. I got a good laugh that someone thought Phil S. was involved.
  24. Yes, though it's already out in Japan, I got my SHM-CD copy in the mail this week. Very nice.
