I listened to "Bob Dylan in the 'Eighties: Vol. 1" over the last few days, a couple of times, and have to say I really really enjoy this effort. And the interpretations have made me really appreciate the songwriting and gave me a new look at the feelings and intentions possibly behind the songs.
  5. Suits. . . Gina Torres! She's so lovely. The Americans. . . shaping up to be a good new season. The 100. . . weird show that tickles my fancy. On DVD: The Shield Season Three.
  6. 1. Did you grow up in a household with classical music around you? Classical music was in my household. As well as a bit of jazz, mostly swing music. 2. Did you learn an instrument and experience classical music that way? No, I learned instruments much later, after my tastes in music were pretty set, though listening to classical with frequency and big interest came later still it was not related to playing an instrument. 3. How does classical music relate to your love of jazz? A secondary interest, a primary interest (with jazz in second place) or part of the seamless web of music? Part of the seamless web of music that I am interested and also catalyzed by the fact that it is a music I can share with my parents.
  7. Me too, I couldn't live without the Columbia albums, they're magnificent.
  8. ttk, I think the RVGs sound better to be honest, they seem to be from better sources and the mono RVG editions sound really good to me. That said the new SHM-CD versions from Japan sound better by a bit. Worth checking out.
  9. Too bad, would have grabbed that had I seen it.
  10. I believe it came out on CD in the 1990s - have definitely listened to a CD copy of it before. Really good one. I've never seen a cd copy of that. . . I'd buy it in a heartbeat, a great ECM record. I've a cdr of my lp somewhere. . . .
  11. Thank God for Tom for the Transition recordings alone! I love those.
  12. Many happy happy returns Joe!
  13. Jarrett's "Changeless" and Corea's "Trio Music Live in Europe" are my favorites of this bunch.

I really like these Dylan lyrics, and what Mumford et al did with them. This is a "new song" I keep listening to lately.

    Nice.
  16. Yes, it's been bad, especially way on the othert side of the city where my fiancee lives that gets twice the snow here on this side. Lots of shoveling! Will be interesting to see how the second season (which I believe is to take place a generation or so earlier with a take from Carradine's character's past) turns out.

Mostly you learn there are angry men on the internet that will tear anything down.
  18. I thought it was very entertaining and I watched it on broadcast, and bought the Blu-ray to watch again soon. The Blu-ray came with a Fargo knit cap that has come in handy this winter.
  19. I like the Shorter, and THAT is the cd version to get, sounds so good.
  20. The Eddie Gale is great, I think you'll really dig that one.
  21. Newly received from Pete B and such an improved copy from what I had before. Eventually I'll find a great mono copy as I love this date in mono but my copy is bad.
  22. HELL YEAH!
  23. Interesting, glad you have speakers to listen to now. I like the AP SACDs as SACDs. . . don't know if I've ever listened to them as Redbook cds. A well-done SACD on my best player trumps the best Redbooks on my best player for those, there's no escaping the benefit of the high resolution. I'm very happy with these SHM-CDs and keep hoping against hope they'll bring out a series with all the music from the first decade of the label. Still hoping, hope can be cheap to store.
