  1. Someone Else's Problem (from "Full Western Dress" by The Derailers).
  2. I know nothing of him, other than reading that he played with Miles in 1975. What is Dune like? I only to my knowledge have heard what he has done with Miles (on bootleg) and liked that. So I'm taking a leap of faith here, have never heard Dune.
  3. I ordered one with Sam Morrison as a sideman and his as a leader.
  4. This one has just been like an emotional earworm for me this week, not sure why, but it's a great performance. From "Lost on the River" which is a great cd where others write songs based on Bob Dylan lyrics he never turned into a song. "Kansas City" sung by Marcus Mumford

  6. Well, as mj says, it's all a matter of what you enjoy listening to, unless you want to "study" the medium and if so there is a lot of music here representative of the period. My favorite entry in the series is not in this box that I can tell, and is possibly more technically gospel than blues: "The Complete Blind Willie Johnson." http://www.amazon.co.uk/Complete-Blind-Willie-Johnson/dp/B0000028QB/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1421882251&sr=8-1&keywords=The+Complete+Blind+Willie+Johnson These 30 sides really get to me. I can recommend them. . .though this one 2 cd release is about half the cost of this set of 20.
  7. Hmmm. .. I think that song is about Genetics.
  8. I look at it this way: is there a bebop song written about almonds?
  9. I've liked the sound on their recent jazz reissues. Granted, they don't sound quite as good as those from IP, but still very good.
  10. Finished The Shield, Season 1. How did I not watch that show earlier? Now on to Black Sails, Season 1, Blu-ray.

  12. I certainly don't remember any talk of MLK infidelity in those days and the reasons I have seen listed for the holiday being opposed was that MLK was some sort of a Commie as he opposed the Viet Nam War, and that his importance was overblown. I'm certain there was some racism behind some of the opposition.
  13. No, it was because I was important! One of the busiest of the grunts. They nearly always wanted me to work, and if I worked that day I got more done as there were less phone calls etc. and I also got to take another day of my choosing off, so a good deal for me.
  14. My favorite day off work was when I would occasionally get Confederate Heroes Day off when working for the State of Texas. (It was a "skeleton crew day"--the offices didn't close but most had the day off. . . I usually ended up working those holidays).
  15. I didn't go to this site but one person who it amazes me that I have lived longer than is Philip K. Dick. It also amazes me that he was a few years older than my father. Both were/are big intellects and big thinkers and so so different! I would have loved to have been able to have a few conversations with Philip.

Many are going to hate this new album (many without even listening to more than a few seconds here and there). I'm very interested to hear it, I think it will hold some fascinating moments. I'm not a Sinatra fan, but I am a Dylan fan and will enjoy hearing his interpretation of these songs.
  17. Well, that took my mind places it would rather not go but seems to be the truth. Poor Billie. I'm going to play some of her music this afternoon when I get home. What a talent.
  18. Monkeys? Okay. Just no baboons.
  19. I'm retired too, and when I was working I had Martin Luther King Day off. Now I rarely get a full day off.
  20. I really enjoyed Season 2 more the second time through, great season. Season 3 in a few weeks!
  21. The Shield, Season 1
  22. I very much doubt this represents any change of opinion of Universal regarding SHM releases, this is just what the labels do, discontinue items and often release them again at a lower price point.
  23. Erwin, If the album doesn't grab you the bonus tracks are very unlikely to change that. Well, figures they are going out of print. . . that's the Japanese way!
  24. No, I don't. I just searched by artist for the ones I was interested in. Wait a minute, found it: http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/products?term.list_id=bluenote_shmcd_20150114
