  1. Yes, I have several original pressings, one of which I haven't battered too much over the years, and it does sound wonderful. The 40th anniversary sounds very close to that to me on my system, and is a great pressing. I wouldn't hesitate to try the Mobile Fidelity though if I did not have several wonderful lp sets to listen to already. I'm a bit fanatical about this recording because it was an eye- and ear-opening one for me at the beginning of the 'seventies and has remained an important part of my listening world. I have a handful of cd versions, and both the Sony SACD releases (they seem pretty identical, one is a hybrid, one is not). They are the remix, as is the Blu-Spec 2 cd version I've recently picked up that sounds phenomenal. I have one Sony cd set that is the original mix, as is the copy in the Complete Album Collection. The one I listen to the least is the Complete Bitches Brew Sessions box set. And I have the first US cd version which actually sounds listenable if you reverse the polarity, believe it or not. I'm sure the Mobile Fidelity SACD will sound very good, and I want the original mix on SACD. Their previous Miles Davis SACDs have sounded excellent. I love this music!
  2. I think it's totally unnecessary to have to know in detail tons about the music we listen to. If we hear it and enjoy it, understand it enough to do so, then fine and dandy. We don't have to pretend to be some genius savant on the internet, and even if we did want to, in depth knowledge is not really necessary for that either! I'm content to move along listening to things and determining what I like, and feeding music to my Dad, who knows what he likes and is informed enough to enjoy it and look forward to hearing more. I read a little here and there, but I'm not going to immerse myself in books about classical music.
  3. I like Perahia's interpretations of Mozart. Watching the DVDs in the recent collection of rehearsals and recitals and intererviiews recorded in London I get the sense that he has really studied Mozart and come up with his own vision and version of how his work should be rendered. And I like the results. I haven't heard GOBS of interpretations, but don't need to in order to like Perahia's. He may not be the most macho of men, but he sure can play and conduct.
  4. Don't forget the EXCELLENT Joe Henderson version on one of the Village Vanguard cds. I know, not Sam's original version, but a helluva version. I think in this case AMG is correct, unfortunately.
  5. Okay. I'll believe when I see it.
  6. If I get my Ouija board out this weekend I'll ask.
  7. Yes. Just don't ask me when it comes out. I think they have a supersecret Magic 8 Ball they use to plan their release program.
  8. The mixes are different. In a sense I view the original mix as a sort of processed "rock album" mix, and the remix as a more "unfutzed with jazz" mix. I would possibly prefer the remix if I hadn't been listening to this release since '71, and then the fact that it is mixed the way it is was one reason it sucked me in and has held me prisoner all this time.
  9. Granted. In that case it has great potential!
  10. I spent decades with the original mix and I prefer it, clearly. I have very good vinyl and cd versions of the mix, I do want the SACD. This release is one of the cornerstones of my collection, and listened to often.
  11. Apparently, according to the discussions I've read, YES.
  12. I agree, I have the two episodes aired Saturday yet to watch, nice series. Poor Rubicon! They haven't even released it on disc, which is a big shame, I want to watch that again. I got caught up on The Bridge, Falling Skies and Halt and Catch Fire. "Okay" tv.
  13. Falling We fall, and we fall hard, Landing on a hopeful cushion Of our past, our present, our future. I believe I revel I pray in gratitude. Now I can at last open my eyes Looking forward.
  14. Reports are positive on the Steve Hoffman forum where this sort of thing is talked about a lot. I'm waiting for the SACD, it's the original mix and that is what I want on SACD.
  15. Happy Birthday! Many happy returns!
  16. I recommend cdjapan.
  17. I'd say chances are very slim we'd see any of those.
  18. "Black Box" two hour season finale. Was good.
  19. Yeah, I used to be retired, then I took on this sixty plus hour a week (non-paying) job of keeping my parents in their home. My jazz and rock etc. listening hours dwindled significantly. A new girlfriend jettisoned even more of them. But. . . I can listen to classical because Dad wants to listen to it as much as possible. So these sets get listened to.
  20. Did a price comparison on the Bream as it has been on my radar. . . . amazon.it and importcds basically have the same price so I went with the latter.
  21. "Black Box" from 7/10 (I have a lot of things on my DVR due to my 16 days of vacation!) Man, Dr. Black really does remind me of my gal (who I just spent a wonderful three day weekend with). This week I hope to catch up on "Longmire" and "The Bridge." And maybe try "The Strain."
