  1. Favorably. Perhaps a bit more "fun" and a bit less rehearsed with a "serious" element.
  2. I've been spinning the Miles Davis and Milt Jackson Quartet/Quintet SHM-CD a lot since it arrived and really really digging it. The two Bennie Green SHM-CDs are also excellent. This is a great series, and I have to stop buying discs for a while, or I'd be all over these. I hope they hang around for a while. In this case the mastering is really making a difference, the "super hard material" may be making a bit of a difference, but the mastering is the reason to buy these imo. I like the mastering on the new Blue Note cds as well, but the improvements on these new Prestige masterings seems a bit larger to me. And interestingly in the case of the Blu-Spec 2 cds I've bought using masterings I have on regular cd, the Blu-Spec material and pressing method seem to have really had an impact as these sound improved, quite noticeably to me on my system, with the same materings. I have the Lateef Prestige SHM-CDs in the mail to me, looking forward to them!
  3. Darn, you're right Jim, I was thinking of Motto. It's been a long day and full of my Mom's drama about very undramatic things that I have had to keep explaining over and over. The new (non SHM-CD) Blue Note cd of Motto sounds so much better than the One Way cd. This new Iska sounds better than the early McMaster to me, much beteter.
  4. I know, it's very hard to step down. In my case I have two of the same model amps (mostly), the Decware Torii Mk III. One is one of the first made, and I've had it for some years now, the other is one I bought last year that has one more control that the previous one doesn't. Ironically I haven't really had any problems with either, but I have a spare (in use in my second system, but that hardly sees use). I'm glad you are getting another Marantz!
  5. That's very frustrating. I'm in a lucky position to have a few back up amps for just such a situation.
  6. ARGH! That sucks!
  7. I think you'll love this transfer. I may rate it so highly because the other cd sucks so much, but the SHM-CD sure does sound excellent.
  8. JIm, I'd be very interested to hear what you think of the sound of the cd. It sounds so much better, to me, than the earlier cd on One Way. Against the record. . . . ?
  9. That's definitely a nice guitar! You'll find a home for it.
  10. Thanks! I'd say "I'm done" but even I wouldn't believe that. But I am going to sell a Tele and some basses, and some amps, at some point this year.
  11. Good score! Winner's Circle is one I like a lot.
  12. Party on 2014 Garth! And many happy happy returns!
  13. Thanks Shawn. Yes, it's lovely in person and these pickups really sing.
  14. Got my neck through GT model in from Troy Post. It's all I wanted it to be and more. The pickup configuration really delivers me a wide range of sound, and the feel of the guitar is nice and tight like a Martin, I can get an acoustic sound, a late 'fifties Grant Green sort of sound, an SRV sort of sound, a Jim Hall on Les Paul sort of sound. VERY happy. Troy Post is an excellent luthier and he was wonderful to work with, he really made sure I got what I envisioned. Pickups: Neck: Seymour Duncan Little '59er (single coil sized humbucker); Middle: Seymore Duncan Little '59 Humbucker (neck version); Bridge: DiMarzio Air Classic Humbucker. All three coil-tapped. Note: picture before installation of pickups, looks the same except the neck pickup is not single-coil, is a humbucker, looks different.
  15. True.
  16. Many many happy happy returns Mr. R!
  17. Two of my friends have a guitar-trumpet duo that is almost completely constructed around loops and they use a Lexicon model that they swear by no longer made, and rather unreliable, but they have about five of them between them and seem to be able to keep two going. I have an Eventide delay pedal that loops but it is ridiculously expensive and you wouldn't want to go there (though it's a fantasic tool). Another player I know uses a Boss pedal to very good effect and likes it a lot. Probably the cheapest, most reliable option I know.
  18. And "The Invisble Hand." Re-reading this thread made me miss Reiner and Tony. (Tony posts on the Hoffman board but not here).
  19. I don't know. I'm waiting for you to do the research and tell me. I will say this: it hasn't sounded this good elsewhere.
  20. On my audio wish list is the new PS Audio DirectSteream. May take a while to get there unless I sell some guitars, guitar amps, etc. Which I might.
  21. Neither one has paid me even one cent! But that's okay.
  22. Cool page! http://ehsankhoshbakht.blogspot.com/2013/11/Bethlehem1000.html
