  1. Actually though I sometimes think it is, the consensus here is that it is not (though this is in discussion of "John Birks" on "Let Me Tell You About It").
  2. Wild Bill Davison! Just kidding, though he's one of my favorite trumpeters actually. I don't value Hubbard as much as many do. The trumpeters who I have liked the most on the label I think are Byrd Dorham Tolliver Mitchell Morgan
  3. Many happy returns youngstah!
  4. I'm a fan. The more I listen to the more recent recordings the more I like them. I really like the 'sixties work.
  5. Many happy happy returns!
  6. I guess that people are so used to paying about 30 bucks an lp these days. I still shudder to think about it and haven't done so. There are so many old lps out there in great condition for cheap. . . . I've got the cd set on preorder.
  7. Was a Green-Dorham sesion rejected? We're likely to never see reissues of any Blue Note rejected sessions. And I've never seen any indication that there were surviving takes from Minton's.
  8. Many many more happy returns Claude!
  9. Well, there's now a Prestige series on another audiophile label, Analogue Productions. Who have been doing Impulse titles. Still, not many adventurous or greasy titles.
  10. Amazing sounding vinyl, and beautiful gatefold jacket.
  11. I think the fewer the releases there are, the more conservative or 'safe' those releases will be. In that sense soul jazz and more adventurous dates get less respect. Hans, sorry if you felt I was "fighting" you. . . I didn't feel that way. Was just expressing some of my own audio experience about ways to make the best of bad masterings. I haven't bought many of these boutique Blue Note releases. Yes, they sound great. But I already have bought the titles several times. Tiring.
  12. I have both the Japanese cd and the Verve Original and don't remember any difference between the two. Both are packed in a POD and out of my hands for three weeks or so. Can't listen and compare. . . .

    Preamp Noise

Well, if you only have two tubes then there's no tube rectification. Rectifier tubes are large and they are sort of "one way valves" that convert AC from the wall into DC for the electrical circuits to use. I don't know what may be happening here, sorry. It might help someone to help if you tell us the make and model of the preamp.

Did you switch ALL tubes left and right? That sound in my experience has always been tube related. Is there tube recification. . . one for both channels, or one for each channel?
  15. Hope it was a great one and many many more happy returns!
  16. Many happy happy returns!
  17. That's about right.
  18. Happy Easter! I'm continuing to load a POD for pickup tomorrow, so I hope all are having a more restful day than I!
  19. It's Pres. And it's GOOD Pres. Well worth having in your Presidential collection.
  20. I'm a big fan of the Weston too. I think Weston, even if he didn't want to play electric piano supposedly, sounds great on this one.
