  1. No, it's not like that at all. I love digital and will always find use for my more than 15,000 musical discs. But a friend asked me to help him put together a vinyl system again with a nice budget and it was a very successful venture, we started listening to his records, and it sparked something in me. I went through all my remaining lps, about 500, and realized there were many that I hadn't heard in ages and hadn't replaced with cd. I just got the hankering and so I'm putting together a vinyl wing to my system: Rega RP3 with TT PSU and a PS Audio GCPH. Some cables and the table are still on the way. It's going to be fun. I've always felt vinyl sounded wonderful, I was just concentrating on the digital releases that were pouring out and really couldn't afford the quality vinyl set up I'd like to have nor the time til now, in retirement, I at last have the time. In the last few years I've put together an insanely satisfying system, and now it's time to enjoy analog on it. It's fun to have something new to explore. Right now In the early '70s in the Cleveland area I was probably one of the only young men in love with Flora.
  2. I've heard some classical piano pieces all my life, but I'm really just beginning to explore. My favorites though are pieces by Satie, Debussy, Chopin, Lizst and Beethoven.
  3. First vinyl played in my living room in a long time: Sounds really good. Cheap Sony turntable right now (Rega RP3 on the way) into a PS Audio GCPH, then tube preamp, tube amp.
  4. 85 discs for 75 dollars. http://www.amazon.com/Arturo-Toscanini-The-Complete-Collection/dp/B006VKKAWQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1338662565&sr=8-1
  5. On the Hoffman board, poster "Roger Thornhill" presented this interesting post: On another thread about this when the first one came out I wondered whether they were going to go for 67-69-71-73 as these tend to be the overseas tours which weren't released officially, The even years were pretty much covered with releases at the time and since 68 - did not tour 70 - Live at the Fillmore East / Black Beauty / At Fillmore / Cellar Door 72 - In Concert 74 - Dark Magus
  6. Okay, so when the set comes out we're supposed to put all comments here? How is that necessarily going to help someone find it. There's a thread for Vol. 1. Just doesn't make sense to me. You're working yourself too hard, imo. Whatever.
  7. Neither do I... Both sets from Antibes? Sure? That would be just great! Those are great concerts. (Though I think some of the fall concerts are even better!) Yes, I do agree - to me, the November tour is kind of the main oeuvre of the Lost Quintet - so the balance of that new set is somewhat off, I find. Well, if they dig up and clean off another video, maybe there will be a second volume from the fall!
  8. Sort of disappointed that a thread started about this set was closed. Yes, we are discussing the set here, but this thread is about speculation on other upcoming threads as well. There's a specific thread about the first volume on the board, and this one wasn't closed. I don't get the rationale.
  9. Hope it was a great one and many happy returns!
  10. We can stand to have a thread dedicated to these new sets. I'm very looking forward to both sets.
  11. No, Tony, Herbie and Ron are out of the band. This is "electric Miles." Where are they regurgitating the Copenhagen DVD? Not in this set, apparently.
  12. That may be so, but fact is that they abandoned a Henderson set when they decided to go ahead with the Hawkins box. I have no idea whether they will reconsider or not, but if they do, it won't be any time soon. I was not disputing that. But they obviously don't have a rule about reissuing the same material within sets. . .
  13. Well, there's material that Mosaic has issued on different sets, for example Blue Note sides that appeared in both Hodes and Bechet sets. I think the real rule is that they won't re-release a set they've already made and "sold out". And in fact Hampton-led material is in both this set and the Hampton set.
  14. Both sets from Antibes? Sure? That would be just great! Both sets from Antibes would fit on two cds, so that will be complete I wager. Not sure why the Stockholm isn't complete. . . I'm sure the notes will make mention. I'm eager for this set!
  15. I Talk with the Spirits is definitely one of my favorite Kirks. Try it Aric.
  16. Thanks to JETman for alerting me to this. Kossjack over on the Hoffman board was right about the next bootleg edition: 1969 Miles: Antibes, Stockholm, Berlin, three cds and one DVD (Berlin). http://www.plosin.com/milesahead/Legacy.html Also to be released: an eight lp set of mono versions of Round About Midnight, Miles Ahead, Milestones, Jazz Track, Porgy and Bess, Kind of Blue, Sketches of Spain, and Someday My Prince Will Come. Wow.
  17. "Rain, Rain Go Away" and "Summertime" were done with Basie guys "away from Basie."
  18. Won't be populated by me! I still use the old fashioned stereo systems. Really good sound on this set. Andreas Meyer did another great job.
  19. Damn.
  20. I've listened to the first two discs, twice each. I think the sound quality is excellent for this early material.
  21. Many many happy happy returns Pete!
  22. Just got mine in the mial via USPS. #390. Looks great. Unfortunately, have to run off to a friend's for the evening.
