  1. I'll put the Michelangeli on my want list thanks. As I have about ten music DVDs I haven't listened to or watched yet, it's on the back burner.
  2. Yes Mr. Keith, that's a great reissue of the first two "lps". . . . I have the Elvis "Fifties" RCA box set, but this reissue sounds so much better. I've also been listening to the Sun material. I like some of the recordings of the 'sixties and 'seventies, but the 'fifties Elvis is a period I really enjoy.
  3. Sorry, I mistyped Debussy. Very familiar with Ravel. Was familiar with Debussy as well, but his work has really clicked with me lately.
  4. Started to watch Twin Peaks. I've never revisited this material since broadcast. I wasn't a big fan of the show and didn't watch the whole show on broadcast. But I'm a different person now and I'm enjoying the show.
  5. Debussey. Over the last several years Porcupine Tree, Steven Wilson, and Opeth, thanks to Shawn. Paying attention to a couple of rock figures I never paid very close attention to before: Elvis Presley and The Kinks.
  6. Big pic also used for cd cover.
  7. I love that Savoy/Denon series; I think I have almost every one, I'm missing some of the RandB ones. Great series, wish it had kept going.
  8. Wow. . . I have two Corbin seats for my motorcycle. But. . . no reason to sue.
  9. The Perry Robinson was released in the Savoy/Denon cd series.
  10. Re: the Levitt: I've heard it. . . . Not sure I'd buy a premium reissue, just not a recording that fits in that personal slot for me.
  11. Interesting. Wonder what masterings are used. . . . Great for new collectors!
  12. I don't see a war zone. You quoted two people who were saying "what's wrong with expressing an opinion" and painting it as a skirmish. I agree this has no real further need for discussion in this thread unless JLH wants to address the format etc. But I think this thread and this board can take some expression of differing opinions and respectful back and forth, which is what I see here, Okay, I'm going back to discussing more content related matters in this thread when I feel I have something to contribute. Sorry for any divergences I may have initiated or escalated.
  13. I just think you're over-reacting. Noone is squabbling here, noone is beating anyone over the head to release SACD. It's just a few mentions on a board, some information expressing and sharing. Mike made a blanket statement about a format that my personal experience leads me to disagree with. I mentioned twice I expected no SACDs from this label. I"m out of the discussion, but I sort of really hate some of the double standards in this place, like you can diss RVG recordings half the day long, can raise a mighty choir of angels about Blue Note Works cds, but can't discuss SACD.
  14. I personally don't see why we have to put any sort of limitation on discussions here, nor do I think it's inappropriate within a thread by a record producer who has a serious interest in quality both of material and recording and mastering. But whatever.
  15. I'll just beg to disagree then because in my system the best SACD bests the best CD. Masterings such as the JLH releases would sound improved on SACD by a noticeable margin. I don't expect SACD to happen from JLH or advocate it, but it would be amazing. I've gone the full blown audio crazy route with power conditioning and cabling etc. Perhaps that's the difference? But the medium reveals its glory in more than certain types of recordings.
  16. Hybrid SACD, no? The 1954 Lucerne concert is at least hybrid SACD. Personally, I'm not sure that SACD or DVD-A would make all that much difference in this case. Jonathan's remastering — for all three reissues, so far — sounds better to me than some of the (hybrid) SACDs I own. I don't own an SACD player, by the way (adding import to Hans's observation). I would own one ... if I didn't spend my money on reissues! These International Phonograph reissues sound as good to me as Audio Wave's XRCD reissues (another niche market program). I do own a SACD player, two actually, and I must say that these reissues would sound even more fantastic on SACD. I don't think the economics would allow SACD issues from JLH, but they would be welcome at my house and I know they would sound even more fantastic than the Redbook cds do. Mastering of this quality on SACD sounds amazing.
  17. Very nice Jim, sums up what I wasn't sure I felt about Jack Mac til you said so. And I dig Freddie. He had his own way and he felt it all the way through.
  18. I like this one. I like Bennie's non-trombone contributions almost as much as his blowin'. . . . And I'm glad they gave the drummer some.
  19. Last night's Mad Men. Roger is BACK! That's a good thing. Megan impresses her husband and pulls the fat out of the fire. Peggy pisses off her Mom. This is perhaps the best season.
  20. Many many happy trumpeting returns!
  21. Yeah, amazing that the cliffhangers can be Alicia deciding whether to go in for pizza, and Kalinda sitting in a chair by the door. . . .
  22. Many many happy returns Cary!
  23. Hope it's a great one!
  24. Many many happy returns Niko!
  25. Ah okay. I listened to part of the new Basin St. recordings today. Good stuff, if a bit too "scrubbed" and "loud."
