  1. A place where I got the new Aretha Franklin box for 79.99 and free shipping. So it's alright with me. It's an arm of Legacy Recordings/Sony that runs daily bargains. (Good for one day).
  2. I stand by my request for A Drum Is a Woman, expanded. I think that's a classic session.
  3. Hopefully, but the disc needs some work first. I don't know if they would get involved in that. Why not? When Chuck Nessa was involved with the label he recounted tales of a laborious process to get the sound right for the Town Hall Concert release for example.
  4. Was that a single from the live at Basin Street lp? That lp was released on cd in Japan in 1990 I think.
  5. One day only bargain for Haydn lovers: http://www.popmarket.com/details/5747694
  6. I'm sure someone else was going to mention it, but the remainder of the Mingus Carnegie Hall gig with Adams et al. The first set (?).
  7. Yeah, JBC. Cool.
  8. Chandler had problems with plotting. Always. But. . .it's not about the plot for me with Chandler. It's about the words. When he was on, he was among the very best. Personally, I've not really felt any of the movies, ANY of the movies, really captured the tone and feel that happens in my brain and heart in a Chandler movie.
  9. Many many happy happy returns Larry!
  10. Well, I think they could find the locales or build sets. I think it could be done, and I'd love to see one. I know the PKD book presents many challenges. I'm probably more tolerant of CGI than you are, and I think they could do a convincing job now if they had the budget and a staff with real determination and imagination. It was okay, I've seen it a few times, it didn't really convince me, it didn't really fill the bill for me.
  11. I thought it might be fun to talk about movies we'd like to see. I'd love to see a movie of The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch. I'd love to see a Jackie Q movie! And I'd love to see a new, very Chandleresque Philip Marlowe movie made, perhaps "Farewell my Lovely" or "The Big Sleep". . . . (I haven't seen one yet that really seemed right to me.)
  12. Didn't know about this. Hope they put this out on disc as I don't have HBO or know anyone who does.
  13. Wilson is pretty brilliant and clever. It's a good thing he's been very successful as a musician, or I think he'd be plotting to take over the world. Or maybe he is.
  14. And . . . legal in Europe! Great material, if you're a Carmen McRae fan.
  15. Priced these individually.
  16. Yeah, an altered cover is okay with me.
  17. I would welcome new threads as as Allen notes they often have a new thrust and can lead to new discussions.
  18. Funk Dumpling was at least on cd from Denon/Savoy. Great session.

    Charles Bell

I know of two recordings, one on Atlantic and one on Columbia, the first of which I've had since I was 14 or so, and it's great. He was an interesting player, a sort of John Lewis aesthetic in some ways. Don't know much about his life, etc. but I can recommend both albums by Charles Bell and the Contemporary Jazz Quartet if you can find them. I like the Atlantic best. http://www.discogs.com/Charles-Bell-and-Contemporary-Jazz-Quartet-Another-Dimension/release/1983725 http://www.discogs.com/Charles-Bell-Contemporary-Jazz-Quartet-The-Contemporary-Jazz-Quartet/release/2042351
  20. Message received Pete. Thanks. Updated the first post.
  21. "Decoding Christianity." Excellent series.
  22. Yes, I did. It's on the way.
  23. The Verve Teagarden is I believe the one that his son released on cd, not especially "legally" . . . . One of the Sun Ra Horos was illegitimately released as well in the last few years. David, I think the Ellington reissue was halted because Phil Schaap and Columbia parted ways, it was the last of the (in my opinion excellent) Ellington reissues he produced, and just did not get released before Schaap was no longer on staff, or a freelance producer, whichever it was.
  24. I'm a fan of Blue. I 'll look out for this. Thanks.
