Nah, he just copied Woody Guthrie really well.
  2. I love that one too. Right now, Bradford-Carter Select.
  3. Quite a nice set. Sound is good.

Planet Waves is one of my favorites. I'm reading a collection of interviews with Dylan through the years. He's a fascinating man.
  5. "Memphis Beat" from last week.
  6. They could have probably gotten 250,000 viewers of the Steve Hoffman board and all their acquaintances if they had incorporated Beatlemania into this season! "The Nashville Teens" (from Britain) was the band that had the hit with Tobacco Road if I'm not mistaken. My go to version is always Lou Rawles'.

  8. He played on a ton of records, he was a studio mainstay. Just look at Simon and Garfunkel records, for example.
  9. I've got all this material on more legitimate issues. Good stuff.
  10. These gals are looking for the address to the party this year. Many happy returns!
  11. It's just like the other labels you mention: issuing things in Europe that are out of copyright there but not here.
  12. One of my very favorite jazz books. Me, I'm reading
  13. At least via my cable company it looked awful, there was some sort of problem. Plus it's annoying how they blast the ads and literally turn the volume way down on the show. . . .ARGH. I wasn't that impressed with this initial episode, though I do like Don getting a little bit of grief, he's such a prima donna these days. Having a call girl slap him? Not exactly what I'd expect. Ah well, we'll see what they do with this.
  14. I've had this material with Jeffrey from a tape collector for some time. The recorded sound is okay. Not great, but not bad. Like the playing a lot.
  15. Hey, I was wrong above, it's "Just Friends" where Sal impressed me, he's not on "Stella by Starlight" (Tubby and Jimmy do really well on that one, very brisk pace.)
  16. No offense to Benny Goodman, but they would all do better with a few other drummers I could think of. Benny just isn't really giving them much.
  17. He acquits himself well. One long "Stella" with Albert Stinson on bass is pretty hot. He's also on a longish interview included.
  18. I share my opinions less and less for a number of reasons.
  19. I hesitate these days to make a statement about "playing at a high quality level" these days as there can be so many contentious conversations as a result. And I find that I really like music at different "quality levels" than others may, and don't always identify these levels TO MYSELF. I'd say that if you are a Hayes collector and fan, you'll want this. Ditto an official "Nistico Nut."
  20. Chewy, listen to Miles in Europe after Coletrane left, Miles had huge balls in his solos -- talk about power trumpet playing at its best. okay, you mean miles w/ sam rivers? I think he means Miles with Sonny (Stitt), then George. Don't believe Sam recorded with Miles in Europe. . . .
  21. "Chasing Mummies"on the History Channel. Awesome and entertaining. http://www.history.com/shows/chasing-mummies
  22. Hope you had a great birthday!
