  1. Never even heard of this show before! Who aired it, initially? ABC
  2. Today I started this; the dvd set has three or four episodes never aired, which is good as they left us all hanging. Last night's was another good Damages episode. Ellen is learning how to "give back."

  4. I haven't received mine yet, a few more days probably. Consensus on the Hoffman board seems to be that these are the same "remasterings" as the 1997 releases for the core albums. Though aytpically noone has yet done the Hoffman thing of slapping EAC graphs all over the place to prove this and that. Seems many think they are less "loud" and "compressed." I bought them because I'm a Jimi nut. The general opinion I've gotten from Jimi fans on and off line is that they're not biting on any except Valleys of Neptune.
  5. Water Babies, Miles Davis, all of side one really but especially "Capricorn." I get really bored by Shorter often I must confess, but he's pure brilliance here, and clearly demonstrates he was then a master of the saxophone too.
  6. I just started watching my recorded version of that.
  7. Okay sorry, I misread an earlier post. Maybe they knew you wouldn't take the news well. . . .
  8. TraneMonk revealed in this thread that he had gotten the email.
  9. Bertrand, as a Bobby Timmons fan I have that one and like it. But I sense you and I have a differing philosophy on cd ownership, you like to own ones that are excellent top to bottom. . . and this one is far shakier than that.
  10. Visions HAS been a TOCJ cd before. . . .
  11. If your only concern is the material shared between the two sets, you can sit tight with Bix Restored. The Mosaic sound is very good, but it's not "better" than the Bix Restored sound.
  12. Huh. Oh well. I definitely differ.
  13. My copy arrived last night too. I haven't cracked it yet; I'm doing this insane thing of trying to listen to things as they arrive and I haven't gotten there yet. No Pigpen on this one, which is a drag, but I bet it's great.
  14. It's totally legit Conrad. Even the ebay listing one is, for a different market. I bought this set and gave it to my girlfriend. It is as Flurin describes, has the booklet with all discographic info but wihtout the track by track analysis.
  15. I feel as if I have been listening to a box set as I've been listening to a series of Lockjaw OJCs.
  16. Ah, so happy today I'm a "wise man." Last night I was accused of being a "wise ass."
  17. Dizzy Reece. Turrentine is solin' right now.
  18. I'd open it then Daniel if it has a hinged lid. I think if you do decide to sell it a buyer would rather know that they had a set with inspected discs than an unopened possibly earlier set with lots of glue on the discs. . . . (?)
  19. The new one clearly has a top that has no hinge, it lifts off. The first set had a hinged lid. Should be apparent looking at either one.
  20. Congrats Stefan! I'm very happy for you both.

    Neil Young

The last few years through the influence of a friend I've been listening to Young and collecting the work. I haven't followed Crosby or Stills or Nahs since their supergroup status, but man I have always had a finger on Young's work and I really admire his singing, voice, writing and guitar playing. He plays guitar the way I would love to. I love the tweed amp turned up to eleven sound he gets on electric, and he has the most beautiful acoustic guitar sound that I have heard. I love the sound of his piano as well. He gas quite an ear and can bring out the intrinsic beauty of a specific instrument. I actually think Young hit a new peak in this century. I think hes among the best political writers and performers in rock. Greendale and Living with War are just wonderful in my opinion. And he has done some beautiful rootsy work; Prairie Wind is an astonishingly good album with gorgeous sound. I think there's a good chance that Neil is completely insane, but functioning. I'm so glad he is. Long may you run Neil.
