  1. Lizard and Island are my favorite KC albums as well. Fell out of listening to them after that.
  2. Last week's Damages, again.
  3. Could be a parts guitar that someone put together from All Parts, Warmouth, Wilson etc. Does it have a stacked humbucker at the neck? That's cool. I like the stain and the tortoiseshell pickguards. (Kind of cool that there's tortoiseshell down by the bridge.)
  4. I never have really liked the Nelson pieces, but I'm not a big Nelson fan. Still, I listen to this album now and then and prefer the quintet tracks.
  5. Do you already have a Blu-Ray player? I have two Sony Blu-Ray players that playc cds VERY WELL, the sound is great. Not as great as my dedicated cd playeres, BUT those cost twice to three or four times what you are looking at spending. Blu-Ray slays DVD and also the players upsample DVDs to make them appear as good as they can be. I've been most impressed with Sony Blu-Ray players and you can find a model in your price range, and you'll probably be happy. It's worth upgrading from DVD, and you'll get a cd player too.
  6. Jouyeux anniversaire! Jouyeux anniversaire!
  7. Yes, I would guess that the source disks are quite good sounding. The Prestige LPs sound much better than the cds. These are mostly great concerts, and yes they are more than the same shows/tunes year after year. They're programmed, and feature new material as well as revisited material.
  8. Volkher, So sorry to learn of this. I'm sure your warning will be helpful to someone in the future. Here's hoping for the speediest of recoveries and increased vigor!
  9. Many many more happy ones Larry!
  10. Well I ordered then all from amazon.fr; I only had a few of these.
  11. Listening to "Fear of a Blank Planet" now. I've been buying Porcupine Tree cds the past few months. Shawn exposed me to them, and it was "Arriving Somewhere" that opened the door for me, that DVD gave me a great entryway. Of all the Steve Wilson material I've explored "Insurgentes" stands a shoulder above. I love that CD better than any PT yet, but I'm loving the PT. Thanks Shawn.
  12. Cool set especially at a bargain price. But I wouldn't want to be without the Mingus Debut box! (And though there's some overlap, there was more to Debut than Mingus).
  13. I'd be surprised to find them in jewel cases. My guess is that they're paper sleves in a thin box-shell or a flip open box.
  14. I haven't played one, but I have heard it played on a gig by a Western Swing guitarist here in town and it has a really nice sound, a warm tone. The guitarist really likes it.
  15. I'm not sure what to make of it. "Good" vs. "Evil" has long been a subtext, but I think that the reveal will be a bit less black and white. They're setting us up to a sort of "purgatory within a gate to hell" scenario, but we'll see. After a few more episodes we may have some totally different idea up for grabs!
  16. This was written at the site of the hotel I stayed at in Oahu in 2005, the Halekulani. The most wonderful place I've ever stayed. I'm now reading
  17. Wow. Cool!
  18. Try Edgar Pangborn's "The Judment of Eve." In some ways lighter weight than the others, but not the worse for it.
  19. I haven't kept ANY McMasters. I like RVGs just fine.
  20. I have three SACD players myself, the best being the Sony SCD-XA5400ES, fantastic player, the next best a Decware modified Sony SCD-685 five disc changer universal player, the next a NAD model. I love SACD. A handful of others talk about having machines here on this board.
  21. Glad you're digging it. The solo piano is way cool!
  22. Shawn has been most recently responsible for getting me interested in Porcupine Tree and Opeth. I have to thank Jim R for getting me straight in so many ways with Brazilian artists of many types. And Dan Gould has steered me towards many great recordings.
