  1. There's no "right" or "wrong" answer to "what's the best sounding version" of anything. You're going to get differing opinions. I have some of these in Japanese Impulse 24 bit lp facsimile versions and prefer them to the sound of the 'nineties US digipaks. Others prefer the very first US releases. The US digipaks do sound very good.
  2. Oh yes, I love me some Cordwainer Smith. Fascinating writer. I've read about 75% of these stories decades ago. This is a nice collection that includes everything except the brilliant novel "Norstrilia." I'll probably read a third of this collection this time round and save the rest for later enjoyment.
  3. Would have to be how jazz is defined. If fusion is jazz, it's a) because I came in via Filles De Kilamanjaro and Miles Davis at Fillmore, and moved through fusion from Miles, Return to Forever, Mahavishnu, etc. and then the electric Miles led me back through time to the classics where I lived for a very long time. And I confess to not finding a whole lot of interest in current jazz or fusion.
  4. Mine arrived today. So far have only listened to Soul Station. Soul Station sounds very nice. Very natural and open. I like the stereo image, that it's got a nice center image and doesn't have unnatural width. Tonality is very nice and accurate. Mellower than I thought it might. I won't be selling my RVG version, I like that too. I'll be following this series and buying those titles that I play often. Nice work!
  5. They shipped copies of the Mobley and Brooks to me on Tuesday. . . so yes, they were. I haven't received mine yet, maybe today.
  6. Was a helluva deal wasn't it! I jupmed on it. I have two sealed copies, possibly for gifts. . . and an open one I've been enjoying for quite some time. Right now
  7. What you talkin' about Willis?
  8. 30 seconds I bet.
  9. The 'history of the guitar' bit that Gale does on "Smackwater Jack" is priceless.

  11. A great player.
  12. Sold something! Updated.
  13. I sold one for 10 bucks last year. All I have for sale now is the "Workin'" K2.
  14. Supposedly released 1970.
  15. Here's a description from an internet site: A rare issue on janus ... the only one LP by eddie harris on this label ... Nice LP in a more straight jazz style than his Atlantic LP's. A Great Jazz Funk Track "OLIPHENT GESANG" http://www.groovecollector.com/groove_guide_item/2/450/1/1153/eddie-harris-smokin'.html
  16. We've done this several times before. The short version is. . .coming back from Africa at sixteen I was sort of at odds with the radio and discovered "Filles De Kilamanjaro" in the library and that started me off. I was pretty well preconditioned from my father's record collection which contained some jazz.
  17. Watched the first episode of "Damages," Season Three. Going to be a good season. Martin Short AND Lily Tomlin in serious roles as new characters.
  18. Watched two episodes this morning Think I got a contact high.
  19. I just finished watching this season. Compelling story-telling! Like "Mad Men," thiss is a show that has very few characters that I relate or care for. There are a few though, who are victims of the powerful forces at work. David and Katie Conner I can relate and care for. Gives me an anchor I don't have in Mad Men. And. . . the writing and the method of delivery. Wow. I just could not STOP watching each of the two seasons. Their method of showing bits and pieces of the denouemant right up front and episode by episode is disconcerting at first but it's done very skillfully. Season Three starts tomorrow night. I'll be watching.
  20. You'll be happy. Those Private Sessions have been around forever on cd it seems. I bet they come back.
  21. Weirdly I got an email copy of your PM but not the PM. I'm sorry Jeff, all five of the Mannes sold earlier today.
