  1. There is also a Coleman Hawkins which lists USA as the country of origin. There are no substantive differences in the content of the set. But, the booklet is shorter (does not include the second half which was the Japanese liner notes); inside cover of a set I just bought is blank (where the track listing for the first disc would appear--it does appear in other places in the notes and on the back of the box); lettering on the CD's is black (Japanese one is red). Copyright is different also, lists Verve on US one and does not mention JASRAC. Great series and very interesting thread. Is there one on the Benny Carter disc? I have been curious about that one; I have seen a few copies of it and none of them has the liner notes in English; usually it is in Spanish. Does anyone have a copy of this disc w/liners in English? Regards, Baker My Hawkins is just like yours Baker, US, 20 page booklet with the first page about disc 1 not printed on the inside cover. Such fantastic music! My Carter disc is a European printing with notes in Spanish.
  2. It's funny what time does. I used to HATE "Rocky Racoon." Thought it was trite filler BS on "The Beatles." Now I love the words, so flowing, so narrating, so silly yet catching in the memory and fun. I think it sounds better in stereo.
  3. 87, so it's working even better! No, 54. Maybe it's not working.
  4. Wow. Sorry to hear they kept compounding their error!
  5. Thanks for replying with jabs. Makes me feel so much better about my impressions of your tone and attitude. You have me all wrong, but who wouldn't say that? I'm just having a little fun with my Photo Booth in my MacBook C, not trying to look young or anything, just trying to have a real person as an avatar instead of a drawing or photo of someone else. I'm not trying to be anything but myself as I am right here and now. I'm happy with myself, and I'm sorry if you take my posts that way but I'm not trying to be what I "accuse MacDonald of being." But I know I can't convince you of that. Have a nice evening.
  6. Well acted, but that's where I lost any sense that Don was a decent person. And that began to change my perception of the whole show! It's a good show, but I'm not as enthusiastic about it all as most everyone else posting seems to be. Wonder how many more seasons it will have.
  7. You'll probably get the backorders, in dribs and drabs over a month. That's been my experience. I placed another order. Man. . . such a deal.
  8. C, I think final paragraph is silly and inaccurate, (drug-inspired relativism has undermined western civilization? I laugh thinking about him typing that out) and I found others that I feel the same way about. I feel he's trying too hard to be some sort of big social scientist through the Beatles, to be "deep" and meaningful himself. But that's just how his tone and words strike me. I understand that they strike others differently. I told no one to steer clear of the book. I have read about fifty pages and find the book entertaining, but not all that as you seem to. Sorry to be less enthusiastic about a book you're gaga about. Look at my statement again. It was not sweeping. It was an initial impression (that is backed up by further reading, and I imagine for me will continue to be so.) It would be pretentious if I had proclaimed the book a piece of shit and preached that it should be avoided. I didn't. I shared my initial reaction, my opinion on reading a few dozen pages. This is a bulletin board full of opinions. I often seem to differ with you: about Allen's participation here, about the sound of recordings, about whether something should be issued or not, in matters of taste in music, etc. You can call me silly if you wish, but you tend to pile on me with jabs, which makes me respond improperly, and I frankly don't want to talk to you as your negativity gets to me. So I'll keep my opinion and you can keep yours and I'll not discuss this with you further, thank you. Take it up in private messaging with me if you wish.
  9. I watched Lie to Me and Castle last night. Now, The Good Wife.
  10. I'm sure Amazon will come through with deliveries within the next few weeks. They want the dollars! When is your Dad's birthday? If it's not til later in October, I'd order from Amazon. The price is right. Best of luck! I know how important birthday presents are for Dads!
  11. Right now Shark Tank. My gf really likes this show, it IS entertaining at times.
  12. Wow, that's very cool. Glad to hear the sound is great Kenny. I really enjoy the sound on the sets these last few years, outstanding.
  13. Right now, Tony Williams Select
  14. C, if you look at my statement (only one) without the animosity you seem to have welling inside you for me, you'll see that it is neither sweeping nor in my opinion pretentious. (I don't know where you get the pretentious from, and frankly I'm tired of your negativity and don't want to know). Here and there, and "i'm not sure," it's just not what you paint it, nor worth the venom. If you want an example, read the last paragraph of the "Come Together" portion. It just seems an inaccurate generality to me, boldly put where it need not be. Your mileage may vary, but I feel what I feel. . "THE song". . . "since undermined the foundation of Western civilization". . . . I don't buy that at all.
  15. My copies arrived today. Some great photos in the booklets, of course. Nasty Gal sounds so much better than the former cd it's not funny!
  16. What a conversationalist!
  17. Well, I ordered it. It's going to be better than the Gourse book!
  18. EC, I'd rather not engage you in conversation, it doesn't go well.
  19. Does the one out of ten who does like Lewis also like Glenn Gould?
  20. I picked up "Revolution in the Head." Not sure what to think. Reading here and there I see a lot of bold assumptions I'm not sure are relevant or accurate. Reading "Come Together" I got big chuckles, especially the final paragraph!
  21. Cool. I'll be intersted in your opinion of the "sonics."
  22. Cindy, best of luck!
  23. According to an email sent by Mosaic, the Shaw set is shipping this week.
  24. Revisited some Bing this morning, mainly with Whiteman. Had a good time. This image was in an email from Mosaic this morning, probably will be the cover shot (if not, it would make a good one)
  25. It's like Anit-Geeks Roadshow
