  1. Well . . .because this appears to be a legal way to get the material, and blogs and torrents AREN'T? I think that is why they are making the effort.
  2. I love the Elllington band loose, tight, whatever. I don't hear terrible playing by any means. Really nice stuff, in great sound, a great document of a festival.
  3. Start Reading! Right now I'm reading Rex Stout, "Black Orchids." Nero Wolfe stories and novels, especially those of the thirties and forties, are particular favorites, like old friends.
  4. Good one Chris. Hey, this is the way of the world. I'm fascinated by antiquity. I cannot even begin to fully imagine all the marvels lost forever. . . .
  5. Personally Laton, I don't even bother to venture a guess these days whether we will or will not see a new version of this or that. I can't successfully predict what the majors will do or even the independent labels. And the situation is changing all the time. I remember ten to fifteen years ago when things were dropping out of print and I was thinking "Well, what will new listeners to the genre do because this stuff is now out of print?" Now much of that is coming back into print, much that I wouldn't have predicted. I'm in such a situation collection wise now that I really ought not to buy a single "re-remaster" of anything---my stereo seems to make everything sound pretty good and I have so much. I AM a sucker for the RVG series-es though, and so I'll buy the Booker-Little knowing there's a chance that there will be no Vol. 2 re-released. I have the Complete Dolphy box anyway. . . (and frankly I am sometimes amazed at how this material sounds in that box). Still it wouldn't completely surprise me (but I'm certainly not predicting) to find that they release a complete set of the Five Spot material remastered by Tarantino in 2009 . . . and then in early 2010 release an RVG of the second volume.
  6. I kindof like these choices. . . I preordered the Miles and the Dolphy-Little and the Burrell. These Prestige RVGs sound really good; the Miles titles are my favorite cd versions of the titles.
  7. This is a fantastic set and a fantastic deal. . . . GO FOR IT!
  8. I downloaded "Dreams Come True" from eMusic more than a year ago, but it doesn't seem to be available any longer.
  9. I'm looking forward to it. This week I saw Righteous Kill which was "alright" and Traitor which was GREAT.
  10. I have an idea what to expect (I have one of the lps) . . . but I ordered it anyway!
  11. My thoughts exactly. That's why I said "Is this even possible????" I didn't say, "I have proof that this set is running low, I believe this wholeheartedly, and so should you!" Just because something is available for pre-order but can't be shipped yet doesn't mean it can't sell out. That happens all the time with very popular products, concert tickets, ipods, etc. As has been stated, Braxton has a big, dedicated Braxton fan base, and this set has been perhaps more anticipated than any other previously issued Mosaic. Like I said in post #13, how could it be running low when it wasn't even possible to pre-order the set until today?? Theoretically. . . thousands of persons could have called up and placed phone pre-orders. I know JETman and others here place orders BEFORE the pre-order option is available on the site by calling on the phone. Theoretically. . . and of course it didn't happen. But it was a funny thought that I had when I saw on this thread it had been temporarily in the "Running Low" category.
  12. Mark Wilder remastered the set. Cool!

    Jimi Hendrix

I continue to spin Jimi. . . he is still THE guitarist for me. Just yesterday I was spinning the latest Dagger release (Paris and Ottawa 1968). I couldn't live without Axis Bold as Love and Band of Gypsies.
  15. I'll pass.
  16. I just received it from Amazon this afternoon.
  17. Start with Passport and Visa. That'll get you traveling.
  18. Yes, I agree with you, Three from the Vault was the best of what was released. Here's hoping more like that in the near future.
  19. The Others are at the Dharma Station known as "The Temple" . . . .We won't hear from them til January.
  20. Welcome back Doc!
  21. Yes, we've talked about this one. There seems to be a split of opinion on this . . . . Put me down on the Wow side. I've always liked the lp, and this expansion is just more goodness beefing it up into one great cd. I can understand why others don't like it though, it's very different from the Bobby on Blue Note of the mid-sixites or so.
  22. That's a very good price. You won't regret it.
  23. It's good. Surprisingly so. May be expensive though.
