  1. Big Fun was REVELATORY when it came out as a two lp set in the seventies. I snapped it up the minute issued or nearly. A sentimental favorite that I'll always enjoy.
  2. It's a shame that Fresh Sounds just put out the best two Brookmeyers on one cd (Stretchin' Out, Kansas City Revisited). These I hope will become Blue Note cds one day. (They're on the Brookmeyer Mosaic Select)
  3. Egads. Bones and House? They could disappear for all I care! UGH! To each their own! Idol will be back in January. I'm eager for it's return as my wife, who doesn't get enough pleasure out of life for medical reasons, just loves Idol!
  4. You only have 9,933 posts to go!
  5. Buddy Rich, disc five Man, sound is great on this set.
  6. Lost was whack. Or maybe it's that I watched the second half first, then the dvdr'd first half.
  7. I'm listening right now to the Columbia Small Group Swing set. . . been listening to it for about five hours on the iPod/Monitor Audio i-deck combo. Man it's great rainy Friday at the office music!
  8. In my opinion, for me, the Duke set is about five times more exciting than the Dizzy.
  9. And don't think it's slipped their attention that the biggest selling Idol star on records was not one of the winners, and was one of the few who did write their own songs and play an instrument, Chris Daughtrey. I'm sure that is part and parcel behind the new "search for an American band" show. . . .
  10. Many many happy returns, and THANKS!
  11. I'm listening to that set as well. Disc III which I really like. This set is another sonic wonder from the team of Ellen Fitton (tape transfers) and Malcolm Addey (mastering).
  12. Flurin, can't help you with that. With Charlie, I've been lucky to pick up all 9 volumes of the Masters of Jazz (Media 7) releases and I'd recommend that to anyone. . . if they were in print. I've also the Columbia box set, and the Minton's material on separate discs.
  13. Just for fun. . . what box sets do you consider fall into this category: the first disc is the best. Here are a few in my opinion: Pretenders: Pirate Radio Elvis Presley: The King Of Rock: The Complete 50's Masters Duke Ellington: The Complete Reprise Recordings
  14. Oh. . . and pay special attention to the clarinetists.
  15. Get it. Listen to the bassplayers. Then listen to the trumpeters. Then listen to the pianists. Then listen to the saxophonists. Then listen to the guitarists. Then listen to the trombonists. You may or may not want to listen to the vocalists. After all that, come on back and let's talk about it!
  16. That's so funny. I saw her feature song and was utterly, utterly bored by it. I couldn't wait for her to stop singing. But I hate country in all its manifestations. I thought Taylor's performance was far more interesting, even though I was not a big fan of his on last season. I find her utterly boring too. She HAS improved singing wise since her Idol run, I thought she was pretty dire as a singer there and couldn't understand her winning. I don't automatically hate all country, but I just can't get into Carrie Underwood. I missed Taylor's performance; I was called away to the phone. I like him; when we saw the Idols on Tour last summer he was sensational. So glad Jordin won! I agree the finale was dull and limpid. But I enjoy the result!

I've not heard much to compare to, but I sure like this:
  18. I think the chewy remark was in regards to the Ra page.
  19. I become more and more a BetCar fan as time goes by. In my opinion, one of the great singers.
  20. I dig that!
  21. Nice! Thanks for posting.
  22. That multifocal character thing. . . that's a PKD trademark, don't give King credit for it! King was influenced by PKD, not otherwise. PKD was influenced by French and Japanese novelists in this regard. I actually didn't find that much new and innovative in this. . .but . . .it was entertaining for the most part.
