I'm with you Mikel7 on the women except for Sabrina, who makes my skin crawl. The men. . . well I like Sligh the most. .. I like Sanjaya believe it or not, mainly because he reminds me of an old friend, and dislike the rest. I agree with Mike F that the caliber (of the women singers at least) has improved over the years. My wife LOVES this show. It's so much fun to see her get interested in music as she never has before! Those Pickler Puppies have been wellfed lately! They didn't look so. . .brimming over. . .when I saw the Idol show in August!

Yeah guys, Melinda delivered the goods, and I did hear that comment at the end. My wife and I got a good bellylaugh out of that (and we needed it!) I was just so hoping it wasn't Jordin going home (lovely lady!) and it wasn't.

Flurin, you're correct: all those cds you mention have different remastering than the Denon/Savoys. These later ones have remastering by Paul Reid Smith III in Georgia. 'Salright, but in most every case I've compared I prefer the earlier remastering.

Yes, the Japanese and the first US releases shared the same remastering as far as I can tell.

He's on this one. Just showed up on eBay a few weeks back. Recorded the afternoon I was born. There are two other Clarke's (titled on the spine), the Telefunken Blues, and the one co-led with Wilkins.

There was a Japanese series AND an American series. That list includes American ones (and other later Savoy reissues). I didn't go through it thoroughly (no time, have to pack!) to see if it included all of them. I honestly think that in this series the 16 bit American and Japanese ones and the 20 bit Japanese lp facimile versions sound a bit better than the US 24 bit series.

Visions has been reissued by Blue Note Japan, many moons ago. Calif. Green? Not sure what that is.

I've got almost every one. Not sure you can qualify them as of "this decade." They were really history by the turn of the century. None-the-less a series I jumped on when they first appeared. Bought quite a few as imports, then worked with my friend Dave, then Tower record buyer, to get the domestic batches as they were released. I think I really like the Donald Byrds, the Charlie Parkers, the Lateefs and the Coltrane-Hardman the best. Great sound on this series.

The Mingus tribute is pretty good, IMO. My girl got a copy of one his more recent projects (it's pirate-themed and co-produced by Johnny Depp), Chanteys and Sea Songs. It's got the usual cast of characters (Wayne Horvitz, Bill Frisell), but--typically--a few weird-ass oddities (John C. Reilly singing some raunchy tune about peg-legged persons...). For my money, these tributes are a million times more interesting than the scores of remix projects and "straight" interpretations that regularly flood the tribute bins. The Mingus Wilmer was moved for me to the next level by the use of Harry Partch instruments. Just love the blend.

what nonsense to make this limited!! don't they want to sell alot of these?? or will there be an unlimited version afterwards. it doesn't say that... (yet)... jb Possibly they may put these out in jewel cases years later, they did the same with the seventies live Miles stuff such as "Live/Evil", "In Concert". . . digipaks were limited editions, took years to sell out, then they came out in jewel case editions.

I'm with Jack especially on Lulu! Also, almost all the Blue Note material I've come to see as fantastic start to finish; I'm with Chuck on loving Misterioso and I love many other performances there.

Actually, I found a book that I couldn't resist and started it last night (while I felt like crap from maybe allergies maybe a bug): "1491 -- New Revelations of the Americas Before Columbus" by Charles C. Mann. Wow. Really interesting book!

I'm pretty much with Guy (brownie) on the Interpretations/Live from Soundscape. I haven't heard the tribute lp, at one point this was to come out on cd (again?) but didn't but I confess to loving the Willmer Mingus tribute.

I decided to reread the John Varley "Gaea" trilogy, so I just finished "Titan." However I didn't intend to finish it so fast, and I'm not at home, so I started the other book that I brought as a backup, Jim Thompson's "The Criminal" (another rereading).
