Happy birthday Art, he's one of my favorites and definitely one of the greats, but there was no way he was ever going to make 83, I mean just look at the picture. He looked like death warmed up, as they say, even in the 50's.

Got that one recently and gave it a first spin yesterday - quite a ride! True, the solo material is great, but I quite enjoyed the strings date as well..... Fantasy dropped the ball with that reissue . In my judgment the solo record is more essential than the strings thing and deserved to be reissued in full . Why leave Hello Young Lovers off the CD ? It's the longest track on the LP , and one of the best . Yes , Jaki recorded the tune again at his Maybeck recital , but Byard fans will find much to savor in this earlier version . Fantasy also missed a chance to pay hommage to Jaki's sense of humor through use of the solo cover for their CD : Couldn't agree more with you Chas. I have this but always skip ahead of the "With Strings" stuff and stick to the "Solo" stuff. "Spanish Tinge #2" is my favorite, great tune.

Gambit seems to have released a "complete" version of these recordings on this 2 disc set. This release includes all of Zoot Sims´ live recordings of 17 tracks recorded in Denmark during august 1978. Probably my favorite disc on the "Fearless Leader" set is disc 5, which has all the Trane-Harden sessions, it's a really fantastic and consistent listen and is easily as good, if not better than the "rushed", inho, Miles-Trane Prestige sessions.

Indeed it is and contains one of the best tunes by anyone ever, "Night Flight". Sooo grooooooooovy This box is really a fantastic way to get some great music that is pretty hard to find otherwise.

Hi: On the OBI strips on the DSD remasters it reads 150 best or something like that. So this run is limited to that many titles. Hopefully they will start another series of 150 titles in the future. Just wish they would go the extra mile and issue these as hybrid SACDs! Michael A-HA!!! I always take the OBI strips off and put them away in the bottom of a box somewhere, so that's why I didn't notice that. I bought all the Art Pepper DSD re-issues and a few others besides and was impressed with them, so yea, hopefully they will do another 150. Cheers.

Why have they stopped doing the DSD remastering on the Prestige, Riverside and Contemporary stuff???
