  1. BTW, I think what happened is that after the upgrade is installed, it re-indexes all your files. So it's not that the upgrade deleted the .itl file; the computer just wasn't seeing, and couldn't access, the file at the time I opened iTunes. But after a while, the other files can be seen.
  2. The solution was simple, btw. I backup every night, so I located my backup copy of iTunes Library.itl and copied it to the location that iTunes needs to find it: Macintosh HD/Users/(your name)/Music/iTunes (to find it, in Finder choose Go > Home > Music > iTunes). So if you're thinking of upgrading to Mojave, make sure you first backup your hard drive.
  3. I've just upgraded to Mojave, and iTunes cannot find my iTunes Library.itl. It should be, and normally is, in the Music>iTunes folder. I don't know what the upgrade process did to it, but I did a search for it without success. If anyone else hears of this happening, pls let me know.
  4. Try to find his autobiographical book Lost In America. Some of the best writing I've ever experienced: https://www.amazon.com/Lost-America-Isaac-Bashevis-Singer/dp/0385157568
  5. It's on his Wikipedia page.
  6. Great news! Go Laurie!

Led Zeppelin will be re-climbing the stairway to a federal courthouse after a federal appeals court on Friday ordered a new trial in a case accusing the legendary rock band of ripping off one of rock’s most recognized riffs. https://nypost.com/2018/09/29/led-zeppelin-forced-to-defend-stairway-to-heaven-in-court-again/

    Otis Rush R.I.P

Masaki Rush, wife of Otis Rush announced that on September 29, 2018 Mr. Rush, one of the most influential Chicago blues artists of all time passed away due to complications from a stroke which he initially suffered in 2003. http://www.otisrush.net
  13. Yeah, it's really fast. Jerry's singing can barely keep up.
  14. I’m not talking about them playing fast; the tape might be speeded up.
  15. Listening now to Dave's Picks 26 (Albuquerque). It sounds to me a tad fast. I haven't found any mention of it on the Web. Anyone here agree with me?
  16. The Ken Burns Jazz is the best one-disc compilation of Monk's entire career. It has tracks from all labels he recorded for, including his last session on Black Lion, and makes sure to include two tracks with Coltrane and one with Rollins. Sound is excellent, liner notes intelligent. You can't go wrong here.
  17. It's a series from England (there's a Soho Scene '62, '63, etc.). Each title has two discs: one of English jazz from that year, and one of American jazz. None of it is licensed (think Proper). Here's the back cover of this release, courtesy of Amazon:

  19. One of my true heroes. Happy birthday, and many more!
  20. This rare interview was done less than a year before his death. - RECORDED: November 1966. BROADCAST: KPFK, 1 Jan. 1973. 58 minutes. $17.95. See: https://www.pacificaradioarchives.org/recording/bc1266 Noticed this while I was surfing the Web. Haven't heard it.
  21. Listening now to the Savoy box for the first time; I'm through disc 5. Reserving opinion on the sound quality until I can A/B with some other things in my collection, such as earlier Savoy reissues and the Serge Chaloff titles on the Chaloff Mosaic box. But it's really interesting to hear this material in a label-centric way, as opposed to a collection focused on a particular artist. Because the sessions appear chronologically, you really get a sense of the times. Things were frantic! Virtually every track so far is taken at a hyper tempo. Makes me think of Symphony Sid's repeated references to "all-frantic." It's almost like this was music tailored for an audience hopped-up on bennies.
  22. Dr. Claude Donkke really needs to be recognized for his contributions to jazz.

  24. Thanks for the tip! It is an "add-on" item, so I needed to buy an additional $25, but luckily my Roomba needed some parts.
