28 David Murray Black Saint titles.

I see only the following De Paris tracks on Hot Jazz On Blue Note: Moose March, Everybody Loves My Baby, Please Don't Talk About Me, Ballin' The Jack, Who's Sorry Now (alt.), The Call Of The Blues.

What did he say when he explained the music, if you recall?
-
I understand the two ways you mention (sell out and license time out). My idea involves a THIRD category: titles that, through an unforeseen technical glitch, never reached to the end of one of the two ways. For example, let's say their inventory got destroyed by a flood. I think they could successfully argue they should be allowed to do a repressing. I think it's worth a shot to argue it to the rights holders, and could result in a quick financial shot-in-the-arm for Mosaic.
-
I think there was also an adapter you could buy that snapped onto the 3" CD and allowed it to be played in any CD player. I guess that's almost 30 years ago.
-
I'm not talking about titles that sold out their run (i.e., all 5,000 copies), but those whose sales were interrupted and unexpectedly halted. Mosaic could make the case that some titles could be brought back because they still hadn't sold out their entire run.
-
My point is simply that Mosaic has already put in the work to create these sets, and Ebay has shown that there's a desire in the market for these sets at reasonable prices. Maybe some phone calls by Mosaic could let these licenses "open up" for another press run.

When the box was first released, the 11th disc was actually a mini-CD, if you remember those. Upon repressing, that disc became a regular-sized CD, but still with only that one track. It wasn't a 5th take of Flossie Lou; it was a rehearsal take, with some conversation recorded within, that occurred before the 1st take. It was meant as a surprise bonus. IMHO, it's a nice-to-have, but definitely not essential. What's also interesting is it may not have been planned as a permanent part of the box set. My box's cover clearly states "10 Compact Discs," and the booklet only lists 10 discs. But the third jewel case, which says "Disc 8-10" on the spine, actually holds 4 discs. You can see if your jewel case was meant to hold 3 discs or 4. Also, my box was made in Japan, though distributed in the USA by American Polygram (as it was then). If yours was made in the USA, maybe they purposely excluded the 11th disc.

I recall it being some sort of unspecified problem with the pressing plant. It was a bit mysterious.

Given the new way of selling that Mosaic seems to have adopted (taking orders before a pressing run), here's an idea for them to make some more money. There were titles (I'm thinking specifically of the Vee Jays, but there might be others) that Mosaic, for various reasons, stopped selling before the end of their run date or before selling out. Take the Wayne Shorter/Lee Morgan, for example: Mosaic could take orders for a specific run of that title, which would conceivably be allowed because it's within the 5,000 copies they were allowed to sell. I'd preorder one. It might take a phone call to the owners of the Vee Jay masters for approval, but it's hard to see why they'd say no.

Lots of Taiyo Yuden available on Amazon. Can anyone recommend another brand of similar quality? Verbatim, CMC Pro?

There's an article in today's Wall Street Journal titled "The Real Reason Ford Is Phasing Out Its Sedans." I can't link to it, but here's the key paragraph: Now, as then, Ford and others are exploiting a well-crafted loophole in fuel economy regulations that makes bigger more profitable. In 2011, the industry won a change in the EPA’s calculation of Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE). The “footprint rule”—which refers to the area within the perimeter of the four wheels—calculates a vehicle’s fuel economy as a function of its size. The rule change effectively incentivizes building larger vehicles by holding them to progressively easier standards. As a result, the largest and most profitable vehicles also enjoy the lowest relative costs of compliance. The rule change also constituted a backdoor tariff on more efficient imports, but that’s another story. Exactly one vehicle-design generation later, the footprint rule has rippled through the auto market like a displacement wave. The average new vehicle on the American road is longer, wider and taller than the vehicle it replaces. And correspondingly more profitable.

I have one Chittison CD. I picked it up from IAJRC a couple of years ago. Glad I did, because they no longer exist. It consists of the last two sessions listed on the Evensmo discography linked-to above. I've only listened to it once, so can't really recommend it, but remember enjoying it. It's available from Amazon.

37 Chronogical Classics titles.

Just noticed this apparently-legit label available through Amazon downloads: "CM Blue Note." Some interesting titles there, including the two "Best From The West" compilations. Prices seem a little high on some titles. Also, there are other titles besides what I found on this search, for example: McCoy Tyner - Cosmos.

Some more MPS titles just appeared there; they're now up to 394.

There's a new release on Dot Time Records - Legends Series: Ben Webster - Valentine's Day 1964. Has this ever been previously available? Interestingly, February 14, 1964 does not appear on this Ben Webster chronology: https://www.press.umich.edu/pdf/0472114700-appendix.htm

You must, must, must see the movie that was made of Enemies. The inexplicable is made explicable. A memorable, haunting movie, with great acting and direction:
