a/k/a "Rhyme and Reason". This is the first place I heard Mark Murphy in the 70s. Became a fan and picked up most of Mark's Muse albums - still his best stuff.
  3. Grachan Moncur III Mosaic Select, disk #3
  4. Sorry - I didn't see it as a political statement. But I guess anything having to do with the President, no matter WHO he or she is, is perceived as 'political'. If a moderator wants to move it, that's fine with me.

  6. CJ, I see the blog post referenced..... Again, I'm just questioning this based on what I know. I've heard he has Alzheimer's from time to time over the last few years but I have heard no mention of this recently and I have talked to a few people who have talked to Horace in the past year or so (one of them talks to him frequently) and they tell me the conversations are great and that he is quite lucid. If he does have Alzheimer's, it must be in the early stages then. I really don't know enough about the disease or Horace's condition to speculate more then this. This is all very personal stuff and this is a very private family. I just wanted to respond to what I was reading here that I have conflicting information (that I know to be true) to the rumor that he is in the advanced stages of Alzheimer's. I thought you guys might be relieved to know that he is in better shape then that (and also there is that still being alive part). I don't post anything that I don't know to be true whether it is something like this or reporting someone's death or whatever...... Thanks for the update, David. Good to get GOOD news from a reliable source!
  7. Jimmy Ripp is the 2nd guitar player. Has been a Verlaine 'sidekick' for many years. A friend saw them at the Roundhouse in London - loved the show AND the venue!
  8. One thing I am happy about - I've been playing Horace non-stop this evening. It's easy to 'forget' how great he was. Especially with the Mitchell/Cook lineup!
  9. When I Googled him, some of the links announcing his death were already taken down.
  10. Jackie Mac..........disk #1 Forgot how GOOD this stuff is! Tolliver, Herbie, Cecil, and Haynes - holy mackerel!

  13. If you're a fan of NIck Lowe's current 'crooner' phase, there's some good stuff here - incl some originals.
  14. DAMN! I really wanted to see one of those shows.
  15. Would have been GREAT to see Television there! Read the review: A Band With Some History Brings Heft to the New Place in Brooklyn
  16. Thanks, kids! I guess it's actually a Birthukkahturkeyday, or Birthgivingukkah, or Thanksgivinkahbirthdaykah, or ...? Quite a confluence of "things", that's for SURE.
  17. I used to collect them, but decided that it wasn't worth it and recycled them a few years ago when I moved.
  18. I got mine, too. Didn't know if they had pared down the mailing list or just reduced the number of catalogs being sent. Sounds like it's the 2nd reason.
  19. One of my favorite Mosaics. Listened to disk #2 last night.
  20. Thanks for the heads up. I always liked the Carnegie Hall album, too.
  21. Definitely. After seeing her outstanding performance with Jason Moran the other night, I was struck once again by the fact that she has one of the most distinctive voices and unique senses of phrasing in jazz (or whatever kind of music you want to call it). For some reason I stopped listening to her several years ago, but plan to revisit her now.
  22. Not jazz in the 'classic' sense, but very creative and related to jazz legends - Pyeng Threadgill and Neneh Cherry
  23. I know about Randy and Billy - I still have "Carnival" on Freedom from '75. What I meant was, I'm not sure how Randy and Jason together is going to work.
