  1. Worst packaging design ... EVER!
  2. Andrew Hill Select (16) - disk 1
  3. Pekar WAS a great jazz fan, though! Something that didn't come out in his Letterman appearances. Harvey Pekar archives - Austin Chronicle
  4. I thought the artwork was cheesy, but I guess I should get a sheet anyway. The fact that Jimi is on a USPS stamp is reason enough!
  5. Just realized that I never watched the DVD from Vol. 2 ..... so I just watched it. Really great to have such a nice record of Miles' "Lost Quintet".
  6. I haven't heard this in years, but I remember getting it when it came out. I liked it at the time, but it didn't hold up for some reason - maybe a little sterile, which would explain a lot.
  7. Here's an interesting piece I found on Google http://www.soultracks.com/wayne-henderson-dies
  8. It was interesting to read in the liners how quickly the Miles Fillmore 2LP set was released after the performances. I had no idea. Also interesting how much the engineers learned about recording electric instruments from the "It's About that Time" dates, which were way too 'hot'. Very important regarding how clean the Fillmore East dates are.
  9. I've had CD3 on repeat play for 3 whole days and now into the 4th - a record for me. Outstanding, for sure. One big highlight for me has been Steve Grossman's work on tenor and soprano. Agreed Bob Me, too. Also Jack's drumming.
  10. Finally getting a chance to listen through this. OUTSTANDING!
  11. I don't think I saw the Letterman episode. Will have to track that one down.
  12. I'm thinking he was waiting for Leno to depart so that he could be the 'last one out the door'. He already has a MUCH longer tenure on late night TV than Jay. He also probably saw that his age is now much more obvious compared to all the other hosts currently on the air.
  13. I haven't ordered music from Amazon in a while and forgot that they automatically put digital versions into your Cloud Player. Was happy to see all 4 disks waiting for me on my computer yesterday - no need to burn!
  14. I must say, the show has been pretty tired for a while. I used to be a big Dave fan, but he seems to be on auto-pilot now - "Top 10", "Stupid Pet Tricks", silly stuff with Alan Calder, etc. I rarely watch anymore. There's already lots of speculation about who will take over. I would like to see the network come up with something completely different. The talk show format is really tired, and they all rely on the same formula that Johnny perfected many years ago.
  15. Isn't there a newly discovered Buddy Bolden session in there, too?
  16. Wayne's group was on fire tonight! The communication between those 4 musicians is just spectacular. Can't single out any one performance or solo, but that's how that group operates - it's the 'journey' not the end point. Kudos to all!
  17. Seeing Wayne at SFJazz tonight. Nice review of Thursday's show in the San Jose Mercury News
  18. Seems like they could have bundled them together onto a "disk 5". It seems odd to tack them onto the end of the Fillmore East shows.
  19. FYI, it's $32.99 on Amazon (US) right now.
  20. Just got mine today. Now I get it - it's the 'extra' Fillmore West tracks that have the inferior sound. Looking forward to hearing this set.
  21. Bump. Just to make sure that "Vol 3" comments don't leak into the "Vol 2" thread.
  22. Friday: Lydia Loveless Saturday: Wayne Shorter
  23. Andrew Hill big box (Point of Departure sessions)
