Anyone seriously looking for tubes might be better off checking here: Antique Electronic Supply
  2. Outstanding!
  3. In a month (May 3) going to see the Mingus Dynasty with John Handy sitting in. Should be quite a show - seen the BB a few times, but not the Dynasty.
  4. Not specifically free or outside jazz, but you should check KCSM's datebook for a lot of listings.
  5. You guys ever hear of Maserati? I saw them at SXSW last week and they were pretty amazing - with a relentless drummer. They're an all instro band from Athens, GA and very proggy. Here's a good vid of them:
  6. HOLY CRAP! I was there from 3:54 - 4:17. Bummer. [actually, I was there Saturday night around 8:30]
  7. I saw Earthless three times this week (though I didn't catch the J Mascis gig), I got to spend a good amount of time hanging out with Isaiah (guitarist), he's a very cool laid-back guy. That's funny. The one show you didn't go to was the one that I went to. Also saw Mascis hanging around the guitar show on Sunday afternoon. Did you happen to catch Maserati? Very similar music and an INTENSE drummer.
  8. Don't forget Metallica at Stubb's tomorrow night - though I'm sure that one's not free LOL. Maybe you'll run into BFrank somewhere too. It was "free" if you had a badge or wristband and got there early (both of which I did). In line about 6:45 and they hit the stage at about 9:45 - played for about 90 minutes. Pretty insane, for sure and great to see them in a small, 2,000 "seat" venue (no seats) and up close. Also saw Earthless (w/J Mascis) at Habana on Friday afternoon. Pretty intense stuff. One long jam for about 45 minutes. Other highlights: Dan Auerbach, Peter Murphy, Jon Dee Graham, the Silos, Maserati, Hold Steady, Choo Choo, Iguanas (w/appearance by Flaco Jimenez), Dave Alvin, Roy Head & the Bo-Keys, Silversun Pickups, Waco Bros.
  9. Sorry I missed the Zorn residency. Just too focused on getting it together for this week's SXSW madness in Austin. Maybe I'll catch Zorn in NYC someday.
  10. Nice. Shipp puts on a good show.
  11. Figures ...
  12. I have an old Menza LP called "First Flight" that is really good. Don't know if it's still in print, though.
  13. A few of the "new" Xanadu reissues have turned up on eMusic this week.
  14. Anyone seeing Zorn at Yoshi's this week?
  15. Sounds intriguing, for sure. Hope there's something to it.
  16. It's more than the usual Yoshi's price, but I don't think it's outrageous. Gotta pay for all the different musicians who are coming out to SF for this. Besides, you get to see them in an "intimate" club setting.
  17. What's the deal with these 8-strings? How are you supposed to play them? What's the point? Agile Intrepid Pro 8 Nat Maple FB
  18. FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!! Happy 5-1 !! (welcome to the club) [yeah.......I cheated. don't tell anyone]
  19. Free.....I thought you were CONNvienced. No?
  20. I've had the vinyl of Soaring for a LONG time. Haven't listened to it for a long time, either, but remember that it was a solid album.
  21. Glad I have the Select!
  22. Donald Byrd concert photos
  23. Nooooooooooooooooooo*d*i*c*k*oooooooojjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjj!!! HAPPY B-DAY!!!
  24. That's too bad.........but I can't say I've been in there in over 5 years. It's more disturbing that Stacey's Bookstore is closing in March. I go there a lot at lunch time.
  25. Yes, I realize that BF- I was being facetious. (like Bruce Lundvall would actually call....yeah, right!) HELLyeah, he would, Free! He should be so lucky. You call HIM, OK?
