  1. It doesn't get more black.
  2. I think BN needs a B-3 presence and I think it should be ORGANISSIMO!
  3. Sweeeeet
  4. Ron w/Dennis Thompson (MC5) and members of Radio Birdman - kicks out the JAMS!
  5. Charlap has joined the discussion now. I'll have to listen to this hour later as it's hard to listen while at work.
  6. NPR "Talk of the Nation" talking to Lundvall, Cuscuna about BN's 70th anniversary right now. Will be available for streaming later this evening.
  7. Damn! Give us a heads-up before ya do that next time, OK?
  8. I grew up with those guys on the radio - constantly - drove me up the wall. I've tempered on them a bit over the years, but don't think I could take an entire concert of Fogerty even now. The only album of theirs I've ever owned is "The Royal Albert Hall Concert" (renamed "The Concert" when it was found to have been recorded in Oakland). Good collection of their hits - with better energy.
  9. Ahem...LES PAUL. Yes.........but certainly Jimi (w/Eddie Kramer's help), too.
  10. I got the Big O box a few days ago!
  11. The Organissimo "box"!!
  12. I just bought this LP today at the Streetlight Records here in Noe Valley, SF that is closing next month. Anyway, I'm listening now. Badass! Yeah......I need to stop in there before they close. NP: "Here to Stay" Don't remember seeing anyone mention the Blakey Riversides, "Ugetsu" and "Caravan".
  13. Also saw him in '71 - my first jazz concert. I think Lenny White was on drums (don't remember who was on bass/piano). Saw him again at Keystone Korner in '74 and then once more in '77 at the Berkeley Greek with VSOP. Always been a big fan. RIP, man.
  14. That's why I started the thread to be about entire sessions (or "nearly entire" sessions), where somebody ain't playin' what they normally do. That's what I figured (trying to stem the tide).
  15. If we're going to note individual tunes (as opposed to entire sessions), then this is going to be one HUGE thread.
  16. I was going to mention this one, but Joe plays drums on 2 cuts. Of course, there's Eddie Harris "The Reason Why I'm Talking S--t" - he plays "jokes" throughout.
  17. Shouldn't this be in the "Mosaic and Other Box Sets" Forum?
  18. Hope you're having a GREAT one, Jim!!
  19. I'm amazed at all the Anita O'Day mentions. I didn't realize it was that popular. I'm definitely going to have to spend more time with it. Top 3 based on estimated playing time (I'm surprising myself here): Gerald Wilson Blue Mitchell Thad Jones (3CD set) Runners up: Jackie McLean Larry Young Selects: Tolliver Patton
  20. OOOOoooooooooh, good for you. That looks NICE!
  21. OK.........now I'm listening to Warszawa.
  22. Speaking of the Black Saint/Soul Note extravaganza, this new addition fits right in (although on Enja): Charles Tolliver Impact
  23. Maynard Ferguson must be hard to come by because it always sells for many 100s of dollars.
  24. OK.......today's the day! You can all PayPal me your presents now.
