  1. Just got back from the Mingus BB. Kumba Frank Lacy got TWO vocal numbers! He was great. So was the rest of the band.
  2. Worst than I thought. Here's what the tech at Sweetwater had to say after getting it back in the shop. At this point, I'm going to wait until they get more in stock. +++ I have your guitar up on the bench right now and found that the guy that was in charge of making the nut for your guitar didn't do a good job. The nut was sanded down too low, and thus, the slots had to barely get cut in. If I cut them any lower, the guitar will fret out on the first fret. I can already tell the D-string is barely buzzing because it is hitting the fret. Also, I noticed that the neck has a bit more relief (curve) to it than I would like to see. If I straighten it the way it should be, the strings will most certianly fret out.
  3. What happened to the weekly chat? Conn? Free? Noj? Barak? Agg?
  4. Mingus BB at Yoshi's (Oakland) tomorrow night.
  5. YOU could record that album, Free!
  6. Thanks for the heads-up on eMusic! I'm downloading it now. This is what eMusic is perfect for. You get 2 hours of music and only use 12 tracks, total! Especially interesting since I just heard this well done piece about the album on the radio this afternoon - PRI's "The World".
  7. There's a newly renovated Kabuki Theater movie multi-plex that's being run by Sundance, so there should be an interesting selection of movies, if you're into that. You are also within easy walking distance of The Fillmore Auditorium and the new Yoshi's SF. If you take Fillmore Street up the hill (North-ward) there are lots of restaurants, boutiques and coffee houses.
  8. Saw Randy with that trio (different drummer, I think) + Billy Harper at Yoshi's last year. Very entertaining show. Alex Blake is a wild man, for sure. Next Saturday going to see the Mingus Big Band at Yoshi's. They're ALWAYS entertaining!
  9. Went to my local Streetlight. Everything was 20% off. It was crowded, too - which was nice to see. Picked up a Buddy Guy CD.
  10. Heads up, Agg - SXSW, March 18-21, 2009!
  11. AAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaagggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg!!!!!!!!!
  12. Here are 4 that you should take a look at. All under $500. Canon PowerShot G9 Canon PowerShot SD870IS Panasonic DMC-LX2K Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX500K (available in June)
  13. Oh, well ... back to my old, hacked-up Franken-Tele for a week or two.
  14. Wow, thanks! Though there are too may options for my tastes. You only need to select the options that YOU think are important - even if it's 1 or 2. At least it will narrow down your options. What price range are you looking at, anyway?
  15. None more black! Exactly! Meanwhile........it looks like I'm going to have to send it back to Sweetwater. Most of the slots in the nut are cut way too shallow. "Marty" said that they would re-slot it for me. Interesting comment from him: "I've seen this on a number of Gibsons but rarely on a Fender."
  16. I would think that you could get a black or tortoise pickguard from Fender. Couldn't be that expensive.
  17. That's a GREAT looking Tele, BTW.
  18. Oh, yeahhhhhhhh. Lon's got GAS - no question about it. [GAS = Gear Acquisition Syndrome] (me too, BTW) I picked up one of these at Guitar Center over the weekend. Makes a LOT of sounds for a little over $100 - and very portable. You can use it as a headphone amp.
  19. I might have to order that one. It's been on my list for a while. I have a couple of those on vinyl, but having it all together in that box on CD seems like a good idea.
  20. Yep - arrived today! Will need some glow-in-the-dark stick-ons, I think. Very nice, so far. I like the 3-pickup arrangement. The 3rd & 4th strings pop out of the nut too easily, but I'm sure there's an easy fix for that.
  21. Tracking shows delivery on Tuesday. I'll give a full run-down on how "black" it sounds.
  22. I think it may be pronounced: Shar-day'
  23. Man, that SW is one busy guy!
  24. That's what I was figuring.
