  1. Had a chance to see him at the Big Ears Festival a few years ago. I opted for a different show. Sorry I missed him.
  2. I remember those EmArcy sets. That was a nice series - also Sarah Vaughan, Clifford Brown, etc
  3. I was bowled over by Stanley Clarke when he came on the scene, and always thought of Jaco as a Clarke wanna-be. He had his moments for sure, but Weather Report was never the same after he "took over". They made a lot of money, though.
  4. I've been wondering for years why no one has put out any kind of retrospective (or "complete") box of anything by Cannonball. Since he made his mark on multiple labels, you'd think at least one of them would have done it. A lot of "lesser" players have certainly been honored with them. Some of my favorite Cannonball albums are his 60s-era live disks. Tons of energy and personality jump out of the speakers of each one!
  5. Never seen those. They do look impressive, though!
  6. My friends saw that show. Amazing she's still going. I saw her a few years ago at SFJAZZ with Cameron Brown
  7. Eyedentity: Diana Purim & Krishna Booker Fun new album!
  8. Agreed! And that Parker IS iconic ... for him, anyway. You don't see them around much, and now they're out of business. I actually have a Parker myself, but it's much less outrageous than that one. It's more like a Parker version of a Gibson Les Paul.
  9. Definitely one of the best Smiths albums! Looking forward to Johnny Marr's new album, too. Some of it already available for streaming.
  10. Plant and Krauss do a nice version of "Can't Let Go" (Randy Weeks) that Lucinda covered so well on Car Wheels
  11. Just released 25th Deluxe Anniversary edition
  12. With the Bangles at SXSW in 2011
  13. The downside is that it's only 31 minutes long
  14. I was just reading some good things about his new covers collection

    Ravi Coltrane

I saw him at SFJAZZ about a week ago in a sit-down discussion about doing the music of his parents, particularly his mother.
  16. I have the Wounded Bird edition, too. Yes, aggressive, but that's the way they were in the beginning. I enjoy all their pre-Jaco albums. BTW, I saw them about a year after this show at the Whiskey-a-Go-Go in Hollywood, of all places! Mahavishnu Orch there around the same time, too!
  17. Agreed. And I saw every one of their tours through Passion Play. I more recently picked up all of the Steven Wilson reissue long boxes, and am expecting delivery on this one soon. Not sure how much different it is from the earlier more traditional multi-disk set that he did, but if tradition holds the booklet will be amazing
