  1. Nice piece, for sure. I was a huge fan in the 70s. I need to catch up on some of later work.
  2. Tomorrow at SFJAZZ: John Scofield "Yankee Go Home" w/Jon Cowherd, Vicente Archer, Josh Dion
  3. Any of the Mark Murphy albums. His best work was on Muse, IMO. Also, 5153 Schnitter, David: Goliath w/ Cecil McBee, Claudio Roditi, etc.
  4. I like their first few albums a lot. I saw them in a club in 81 (their first US tour, I think) and then again in 84 at Radio City in NY. I sort of lost interest in them after that.

    Carla Bley

I think I got that backwards. She was married to Peacock before Bley

    Carla Bley

Paul Bley was also married to Annette Peacock, who left him and married Gary Peacock. There must be something about bass players
  7. Sadly Finnigan passed away last year. I liked his B3 playing and singing a lot.
  8. Just got back from the first night of this festival. Very enjoyable.
  9. The JHB album on Columbia is a classic. Haven't listened to it in years, but I'm sure it holds up.
  10. Just saw him at Big Ears doing a program of solos and duets (all around the drum kit) with Ambrose Akinmusire
  11. I saw that Big Ears show, too. Very interesting, and very quirky. I liked him. Ran into him at our hotel and told him how much I enjoyed his drumming and that show. I think it was a one-off for him to get to play with those guys.
  12. Yes - and she had multiple shows at the festival
  13. I don't remember exactly, but I saw them twice. First was their own show which included a drummer, so probably pieces from Real Life. The other show was a collaboration with Caroline Shaw. Everything was composed by her and she sang some pieces, too.
  14. Fourth! Trying to remember what my first jazz record was ... maybe Red Clay
