  1. Agreed! And that Parker IS iconic ... for him, anyway. You don't see them around much, and now they're out of business. I actually have a Parker myself, but it's much less outrageous than that one. It's more like a Parker version of a Gibson Les Paul.
  2. Definitely one of the best Smiths albums! Looking forward to Johnny Marr's new album, too. Some of it already available for streaming.
  3. Plant and Krauss do a nice version of "Can't Let Go" (Randy Weeks) that Lucinda covered so well on Car Wheels
  4. Just released 25th Deluxe Anniversary edition
  5. With the Bangles at SXSW in 2011
  6. The downside is that it's only 31 minutes long
  7. I was just reading some good things about his new covers collection

    Ravi Coltrane

I saw him at SFJAZZ about a week ago in a sit-down discussion about doing the music of his parents, particularly his mother.
  9. I have the Wounded Bird edition, too. Yes, aggressive, but that's the way they were in the beginning. I enjoy all their pre-Jaco albums. BTW, I saw them about a year after this show at the Whiskey-a-Go-Go in Hollywood, of all places! Mahavishnu Orch there around the same time, too!
  10. Agreed. And I saw every one of their tours through Passion Play. I more recently picked up all of the Steven Wilson reissue long boxes, and am expecting delivery on this one soon. Not sure how much different it is from the earlier more traditional multi-disk set that he did, but if tradition holds the booklet will be amazing
  11. Not "music", but I saw a sit-down interview with Ravi Coltrane at SFJAZZ last night. Very interesting, including a lot of discussion about his mother and life as a teenager in the San Fernando Valley.
  12. Thanks! Surprised you didn't see her in Texas sometime. I didn't realize you lived so far from Austin.
  13. There's a nice interview with founder and Executive Director, Ashley Capps. He talks about the difficult past 2 years and what he's looking forward to next March. Ashley Capps Shares His Vision for The Big Ears Organization Can't WAIT!
  14. Thursday: the revamped SFJAZZ Collective. They're recording all weekend for their next release in the Spring. Chris Potter, tenor saxophone David Sánchez, tenor saxophone Etienne Charles, trumpet Warren Wolf, vibraphone Edward Simon, piano Matt Brewer, bass Kendrick Scot, drums Martin Luther McCoy, vocals/guitar Gretchen Parlato, vocals
  15. Minor Alps = Juliana Hatfield/Matthew Caws
