  1. Good schedule! I haven't started yet, but I see a lot of possibilities there.
  2. Definitely make a plan and have backups in mind, even if it's rough. It will help if you get shut out of a venue. Also, logistics are very important. The big theaters (Bigou, Tennessee, Civic Auditorium) and some of the churches are clustered downtown. Most of the smaller venues (Standard, Mill & Mine, The Point) are in the uptown area. The town is very walkable, but the trek up and down Gay St (the main artery though town) can take 15 minutes or more to go from one end to the other. They have a shuttle, but it's not very efficient.
  3. Yep. I remember when those came out. I'm not the biggest Darryl fan either, but it was such a surprise to see him hooked up with Fripp. I liked it at first, but it didn't hold up that well for me. I appreciate the effort, though!
  4. Strata-East: The Legacy Begins An amazing 33 track compilation. Only available digitally, but almost 4 1/2 hours of music!
  5. Good album. I picked up several Black Jazz reissues when Real Gone had some big sales in the last couple of years.
  6. I always enjoy seeing Berne. He doesn't get to the West Coast often, but I try to see him whenever he's here. This photo from when he played in SF about a year ago with Belisle-Chi and Rainey.
  7. I've listened to some of it - VERY impressive!
  8. Saw Woody a few times. The first was with Dexter's band in '77 at the Keystone Korner. Always INTENSE!
  9. Mine arrived, too 👍
  10. Thanks, David. I saw Cecil come up on stage and talk to McBride, but after a few minutes of discussion he left and never came back. Glad I was there, anyway!
  11. With the wave of interest in Strata-East lately, I'm finally getting around to listening to ALL of this. Quite a wide variety of styles. Nice to have some of the albums now being reissued included here.
  12. The Chinen discussion was interesting today. I was hoping they might discuss the Clifford Jordan Strata-East Mosaic box and how that came to be. It's discussed in the booklet, but would have been nice to hear more about it.
  13. Wow - INTENSE! I only saw them once. I think it might have been the Incident tour. Not my favorite album of theirs.
