  1. I've heard from Rockerfeller Center that Alphonso Johnson has been ill. Here's a photo of him with Weather Report in 1975 or so:
  2. Here's a cassett! Ebay And a LP
  3. Oops! My mistake. Maybe it is harder than I thought!
  4. Richard Williams Al Gafa
  5. Who in all the world is so seriously ill? More information, please! Wes "Warmdaddy" Anderson had a stroke last year. He's recovering well, I heard last Summer.
  6. Well it is a nice, funny story even if it's not true. A couple of times, I developed some negatives for Dizzy Gillespie when he would pass through town. He would have a dozens of them or so depending on how much time he had been on the road before going home, and I had the equipment to process them and make some prints. In those days he would be in one spot for a week or two sometimes, so I would delevop a few rolls and make some prints after he saw some contact sheets. In one roll there were photos of The Cosbys at their home, where Birks would stay in a guest house when he was in LA. I remember that I made a series of images of the Cosby doberman "playfully" attacking thier son. Dizzy thought it was funny. Another photo was a framed telegram from Miles Davis that was over a toilet that said something like: "Ugh! ah bada bada ah ah bada ah!" MILES
  7. Marcus Roberts has never moved me but, best of luck and all of that. Tom, (and Debra) well said!
  8. Nothing very rare on his list at that. Note that he's just trading, not selling. Yes, I know that's a no-no here.
  9. Steve Bagby was from Miami. When I lived there, he was with Ira all of the time. He died this past June.
  10. Is that his first Muse date? I didn't know that! If so, you nailed it, description and everything! Oddly enough, I just received Montara from BMG this week. If it's anything like the Barron date, as you say, then I can't wait to dig into it! I have that side. It's called "Sunset to Dawn" and Warren Smith plays vibes.
  11. There's hundreds of cases that can be mentioned here, I believe. But... Sonny Clark recorded for Time Azar Lawrence recorded for Milestone

  13. I bet he became a jam band devotee and is following The String Cheese Incident on tour.
  14. Jilly's was in NYC, in the Mid town area. Maybe he had one in LA too. Monty Alexander used to play there a lot,but once I saw trumpeter Charles Sullivan . I shit you not, as they say. Maybe Jilly Rizzo sold it by then. I found this...
  15. marcello

    Carla Marciano

Well, nice energy but she's no Rosario Giuliani & Flavio Boltro
  16. Think of the US system as 50 different city states, like in say old Italy. Yeah, it's that fucked up.
  17. I've belatedly become aware of Bishop, Johnson, and guitarist John Stowell through a couple of albums they did together, one with Rick Mandyck, one with just the trio. Excellent players who have their own voices. All really great musicians, and of course, John Bishop owns Origin Records with fellow drummer Matt Jorgensen.
  18. Well, this is not a band that can be really be heard from a radio broadcast over a car audio system. Hearing it live, with all of the air moving, is the best way. Besides Chewy, listening to Mike and the Mechanics before MS is like having a fine Port after eating a bucket of KFC. Your pallete has to adjust.
  19. Could this be it?: 052 3-08 11/5/1957 Cornel Wilde, Peggy King, Michel Ray, Billy Preston, The Cheerleaders (2 men, 2 women), unidentified orchestra, dixieland combo with Teddy Buckner (trumpet), Barney Bigard (clarinet), George Washington (trombone), Gerry Wiggins (piano), Art Edwards (bass), Lee Young (drums) Songs: "Who Cares" (Nat and Cheerleaders), "Fascination" (Nat), "Careless Love" (Nat and Combo), "When I Fall In Love" (Nat), "Billy's Boogie" (Billy on organ), "Blueberry Hill" (Nat and Billy on vocal/organ), Memory Song: "St. Louis Blues," "It's Just About That Time Again" (Nat) Note: Nat uses some of the actual sets from his upcoming movie St. Louis Blues, in which he plays songwriter W. C. Handy. A future music star himself, 11-year-old Billy Preston, who in the film plays Handy as a boy, sings and plays the organ. Also on hand are movie stars Wilde, King, and Ray, plugging their own pictures. They each give Nat a cake and presents for his daughters Sweetie (Carol) and Cookie (Natalie). Nat announces that this is the first anniversary of his show and debuts his new closing theme, "It's Just About That Time Again."
  20. That's not Vic. Lee Young also worked for Motown in LA.
  21. I saw this band a few times, once at Avery Fisher Hall with a full line up of drummers and their bands: Joe Morello, Roy Haynes, Art Blakey and Max. When Max made the band introductions he called Billy Harper "one of the most complete persons I've ever known".
  22. When Clem is on the money he's ON THE MONEY!
  23. Here's one of my Barry Altschul photos for you Laz:
