I got the limited edition (500) yellow/red split vinyl. Jorma played at the Shalin Liu performing arts center a few years back, so I got him to sign my LP. This record is much better than that performance. To be honest, the show wasn't that great - certainly not worth what I paid for a ticket. I guess the show was in 2016. I kept the stub. dont miss his next solo livestream this saturday on his fur peach ranch youtube- theyve been phenomenal On 4/19/2020 at 7:35 AM, kh1958 said: Paul Barbarin and His New Orleans Jazz (Atlantic) Coleman Hawkins, The Hawk in Flight (RCA) Ahmad Jamal, Portfolio (Argo)( never seen hawk in flight EVER- it avgs $8 on discogs, I have no idea why Ive never seen it. Two different bass and piano players across the sessions. Music swings the roof off. Any Russell fan is going to like it Edited May 4, 2020 by mjazzg Quote

clifford_thornton Posted May 6, 2020 Report Posted May 6, 2020 how are you using the term underfill here? i haven't noticed major issues with my copy of that record but it's also my least favorite of the bunch, so I don't listen to it as much/as closely as the others. Quote
porcy62 Posted May 6, 2020 Report Posted May 6, 2020 (edited) 2 hours ago, bresna said: After the head and the soprano sax solo, there's a piano solo. Near the middle of the piano solo, there are clicks and crackles that eventually break up a bit and then there's even a bit of bleed through in the left channel just as the horns start back up. The bleed through almost sounds like tape echo but I doubt that would have slipped through... unless you hear it too. I can see a shiny line in the track itself, which is why I'm thinking that it's underfill. I even tried wet wiping the record, which I don't much these days and it didn't help. I had some issues too with their reissues, not the box set, the single ones, got a replacement from Jazzmen after several emails, at first they pretended I send back the faulty copy at my expense, after some emails I sent an audio file with the problems and I got the replacement, not really the best customer service I experienced. BTW great music I am going to listen to it right now. Edited May 6, 2020 by porcy62 Quote
HutchFan Posted May 7, 2020 Report Posted May 7, 2020 Sonny Stitt with Strings: A Tribute to Duke Ellington (Catalyst, 1977) with string arrangements by Bill Finnegan Much more enjoyable than most "with strings" jazz LPs. I dig. Quote
