Jorma Kaukonen with Tom Hobson - Quah (Grunt). I got the limited edition (500) yellow/red split vinyl. Jorma played at the Shalin Liu performing arts center a few years back, so I got him to sign my LP. This record is much better than that performance. To be honest, the show wasn't that great - certainly not worth what I paid for a ticket.

I guess the show was in 2016. I kept the stub.

Oh I still am mad I didn´t purchase this when it was on the America Label. Most of those albums were Mingus associated, I have those with Mingus as a leader and others like "the fabulous Thad Jones" but I think it might be hard to find this one right now.

There was also a Prestige 2-fer with these tracks. You might look for this one.

How is it?

Nicely recorded.

From Russell's own tapes of three different live radio broadcasts. Two different bass and piano players across the sessions.

Music swings the roof off. Any Russell fan is going to like it

Richie Cole and Return To Alto Acres (Palo Alto). I do like this one. Killer band and no goofy song covers to mess with us. :)

Have this one too. Just great agreed!

After the head and the soprano sax solo, there's a piano solo. Near the middle of the piano solo, there are clicks and crackles that eventually break up a bit and then there's even a bit of bleed through in the left channel just as the horns start back up. The bleed through almost sounds like tape echo but I doubt that would have slipped through... unless you hear it too. :) I can see a shiny line in the track itself, which is why I'm thinking that it's underfill. I even tried wet wiping the record, which I don't much these days and it didn't help.

I had some issues too with their reissues, not the box set, the single ones, got a replacement from Jazzmen after several emails, at first they pretended I send back the faulty copy at my expense, after some emails I sent an audio file with the problems and I got the replacement, not really the best customer service I experienced.

BTW great music I am going to listen to it right now.

Sonny Stitt with Strings: A Tribute to Duke Ellington (Catalyst, 1977)
with string arrangements by Bill Finnegan

Much more enjoyable than most "with strings" jazz LPs.  I dig.
